Use average is useless, because in that grouping can be 4 samples or 40 samples with various admixtures

If you are make a (meta-ethnic calculator Celtic, Germanic, Mongolic, etc) you scope out that most represantive sample for that batch of samples but people are lazy people don't like work so they just use average and that is just lazy for lazy low IQ fools. To do it right takes time or high efficiency individual with skillset but people are not ready for this real talk

Do both have Anatolian farmer? Yes.

But Moldavians and Eastern Balkanites have an Anatolian component that is similar to the initial Thracian people , while the French have an input much closer to what a Roman would have been, based on current samples.

So I'd say the French, clearly.

I don’t think people know what Moldovans look like on average. Sure there are a decent amount of darker pigmented pontids or whatever you wish to call them, but a lot of Moldova is north Pontid, gorid, baltid, and neodanubian. It’s too mixed in these days to be considered proper Balkan or even Romanian

Your Moldovan side is Southern af, given your K13 results. Definitely more Southern than Serbs, Croats, etc. Mixes occur mostly in the cities and Northern parts, but with the population being over 80% Moldovan/Romanian, that is not enough to change the genetic profile of the country yet. In Chisinau one can also find plenty of Gagauz people nowadays, so there is a pressure to pull South too. And speaking of Gagauz, a lot of them look quite Northern, but their genes are Southernmost for Moldova. Estimating the ancestry by phenotype doesn't make sense, especially in a country like Moldova, where you can find the whole rainbow of phenotypes even within one family.

This one from below is more representative, as it's made up of references from all over the country.
I haven't removed the outliers, some of which are more Northern than Daos who is mostly Ukrainian/Polish, so these are perhaps more representative of an urban profile, rather than the country as a whole.
But that's still probably closer to a national average than the average of only Southern samples.

What kind of french? the southern ones are clearly closer to italians while the northern ones cluster more with celto-germanics.
Same with moldova, it follows a North/South gradient.
But I'd say france, as overall.

I'm not sure about the genetic Latinity of the French, as being descendants from Italian colonists, but in Moldova's case the Southern profile overlaps with Italian, but in reality it's local pre-Slavic Southeast European, as in Dacian/Thracian/Getae, etc.
We are only culturally Latin and even then that's limited to language, as our traditions are almost identical to those of our Slavic neighbours.

they're closer to N. Italian only but even here it depends on the individual. moldovians are not homogeneous at all. for example Weirdlookingfellow almost overlaps with a N.Italian member here. this moldovian and romanian average doesn't mean much as people plot all over the place.

I think he simply wanted to see who pulls closest to Italians from a genetic point of view.

What kind of french? the southern ones are clearly closer to italians while the northern ones cluster more with celto-germanics.
Same with moldova, it follows a North/South gradient.
But I'd say france, as overall.

The only "French" people to cluster with Celto Germanics is Bretons. Everyone else is about 50-75% continuous with Spain/Italy genetically, from North to South

I didn't refer to the average. There are at least two samples who are more Northern than you on K13, but that doesn't appear to be the case in Global 25. They might be mixed, considering that you are 75% non-South Slavic and score not that far off.

Numbers are not lying. My mom's subtracted Moldovan side seems to be as Southern as the MOL-15 sample, whereas for Daos it is even more Southerly. The only thing that can explain this discrepancy in his case is that the Ukrainian relatives had a local mix, like the situation with the Bender "Russian".

You are within the spectrum for R. Moldova. Some people from Romania should be even more Southern than our most Southern sample.

Numbers are not lying. My mom's subtracted Moldovan side seems to be as Southern as the MOL-15 sample, whereas for Daos it is even more Southerly. The only thing that can explain this discrepancy in his case is that the Ukrainian relatives had a local mix, like the situation with the Bender "Russian".

Your counter-argument is basically "I refuse to believe in numbers."

Daos and you can either accept that his Moldovan side is more Southern than everything that we have seen so far, or he can test one of the parents and it might be possible that it's the Ukrainian side that is more Moldovan than Ukrainian.
If I extract only 50% of Ukrainian from him, then his half Moldovan half Ukrainian parent looks like a regular umixed Moldovan genetically (23% Atlantic, 28% Baltic).

He is 75% West Ukrainian, but scores like a 50% West Ukrainian and 50% average Moldovan. If we assume that genetically he is 75% West Ukrainian indeed, then his Moldovan side becomes more Southern than any other sample from the list.

Daos and you can either accept that his Moldovan side is more Southern than everything that we have seen so far, or he can test one of the parents and it might be possible that it's the Ukrainian side that is more Moldovan than Ukrainian.
If I extract only 50% of Ukrainian from him, then his half Moldovan half Ukrainian parent looks like a regular Moldovan genetically (23% Atlantic, 28% Baltic).

The only "French" people to cluster with Celto Germanics is Bretons. Everyone else is about 50-75% continuous with Spain/Italy genetically, from North to South

Well, Daos' 23andme results were pretty much spot-on - 75% Eastern Euro and 20% Greek & Balkan.

That doesn't say much. I'm 43% East Euro, but only 1/4 Ukrainian. In my case Ukrainian ancestry balances out with South Moldovan to bring me to the Centre. Most unmixed Moldovans from Central and Northern regions seem to score like this, from the results that I have seen.
So 23andme works in mysterious ways.
But I think I've already answered this for myself. It is more likely that his Ukrainian side is similar to that of Ukraine's Carpathian highlanders, which are significantly more Southern than the West Ukrainians from Moldova that I was using as a reference to deduce this.

Do you know anything about your Moldovan side, like roughly were your ancestors lived in prior to settling in the city?

My dad is half Moldavian, his Moldavian side is from Balti, and his polish side is from somewhere from southern Poland. There is nothing crazy about my results for my ancestry. If fully Ukrainian people score Baltic at around 40-45. How does it make no sense that i would score 39.45 or whatever I scored if i am 1/4th Moldavian when the Moldovan average is like 25-30 which would pull down my Baltic by about the points that I’m missing from fully Ukrainian. In every other component my results are similar to Ukrainians with a little higher east med which makes sense because i am 1/4th Moldovan. All those Moldovan samples you provided that are Relatively northern and have higher Baltic are obviously mixed samples with Ukrainian or other Slavs.

Well that’s hard to say for sure because they weren’t a settled family living in one area during Soviet Union. From what I understand is both my moms dad and Her mom lived north of Lviv. Then my mother moved with her mom to Mykolaiv where she met my dad and moved to Moldova with him. To know for sure i have to ask again. But in any case they were not Moldovan Ukrainians lol.

Yeah, but your formula is linear and that model doesn’t make much sense when it comes to biology. Thats not how genetics work. I might be missing something but we are the average of our parents in most traits and autosomal dna. For example, If one parent is 30 Baltic and the other is 45 you will probably be around 37.5. A four way mix for me is (Ukrainian, Ukrainian, Polish, Moldovan)=(45,45,43,30) average equal to 40 which is basically me. If you do this 4 way split average for any of my other components with the averages of the ethnicities that i am mixed with, all my k13 components make sense for my ancestry. Or your formula is correct in describing inheritance of autosomal dna and I’m actually 1/4 Cretan. It’s either of those two lol.

You shouldn't look only at Baltic. Atlantic is the equivalent Northern component, only Northwestern instead of Northeastern. The problem wasn't in your Baltic, but in your low Atlantic, because the West Ukrainian average was 31%. But after a couple of posts and calculations, I realised that there is a starkly different profile in Ukraine too, which is characteristic of the mountainous regions. Those guys have Atlantic in the lower 20%s.

I’m willing to bet that we are closer to the average of our parents than we are to any other model especially a linear model where you can just subtract out hypothetical numbers for a certain admixture and know for sure how much a certain side contributed to your dna, and when I test my dad and mom it will be proven lol.

I know I've seen them before because I had your kit number but what are your Dodecad K12b components? I'm updating that calc for Vahaduo (not for all groups, only Russia and the former USSR), hopefully in the future I'll have a decent Ukrainian average.

Great stuff, thank you for that. Calculate an MD average using those samples and I'll have it added to Vahaduo. Or maybe three averages (Ceadar Lunga, Stefan Voda and Straseni).

I think that's because of your Vlach ancestry. It isn't like super high but definitely higher than I have for example (11% or so).

Vlach people have high Caucasus? That makes zero sense in my mind because they are removed from that region and should be score like gheg Albanians or something around that average like almost completely med.

Well, on Dodecad they do. You can check the spreadsheet IB just posted. That's how full Moldovans score.

Great stuff, thank you for that. Calculate an MD average using those samples and I'll have it added to Vahaduo. Or maybe three averages (Ceadar Lunga, Stefan Voda and Straseni).

It's probably just noise from not perfectly calibrated components. I think I've shared the Moldovan K12b results with you and a lot of people from Centre and North score 1%+ South Asian. 8 out of 10 Southern Moldovans from Stefan Voda score 0, while 2 less 1%.

Well, I don't have a spreadsheet, I just add some averages which I'm able to get. There is a Kazan Tatar average on Vahaduo, it's pretty decent. I think someone added Crimean Tatar ones too but the sample size was quite small.
