I don't agree. I think the standard gaúcho (I can only speak for my state) is part colonial and part recent european. But of course, I'm not the stereotype of a southerner at all.

It's not that common to see 3/4 colonials scoring 0% sub saharan african even in the south. Your native roots are probably charruas, minuanas or some coastal guarani group.

Probably caingangues, since I'm from north RS and so is my family.
And I was quite surprised with my lack of SSA ancestry, I was expecting at least a little bit. My family is what people call "pelo duro"

Makes sence, since Kaingangs used to live in the catarinense west and some Inner areas of RS. North RS is full of germans and italians descendants as well. The natives and those immigrants fought a lot, but the laters did prevail.

There are a lot of majority german and italian cities in north RS, but also, a lot that are both colonial and recent european. My grandparents' towns were heavely colonized by italians but had a few colonial brazilians living before who mixed with these italians and now are completely blended

Today most southerners are a mix of colonial (azorean + native and/or ssa) and european immigrants (XIX century). Indeed, there's some fully europeans here, but I think that they will disappear in the next generations (even in the countryside). RS is not an exception.
