Modern populations are only source populations if you actually have ancestry from them. In the case of G25 my modern source populations aren't quite representative, so it's better to rely on Ancestry.com, which has thousands of references from different parts of each country.

It doesn't change.

G25 modern samples suck it says I'm closest to the Dutch and AncestryDNA says I'm mostly 'Irish'. What does that even mean ? I disagree though that it is better to rely on AncestryDNA. I think you can model your ancestry with Iron Age and Medieval samples with G25 and that is the best thing you can do unless you nerd out with qpAdm/admix which I'm not going to do and the gains are not that compelling enough for me to invest the effort in the latter. 'Modern' populations are kind of meaningless you know back in the viking and saxon days they had boats but not airplanes etc... and people tended to stay put in their own village for most or all of their life. 'Modern populations' is a nebulous meaningless concept.

If a person gets a distance with 2 something, like Cass, it usually means he’s around 40% Germanic.

That is the case, because it’s a Pan-Nordic calculator without Slavic samples.

Not necessarily. I have distance of 3.6% without having any significant Celto-Germanic admixture but I am more southern instead. I noticed that more Southern Slavs are closer to Central Europeans on G25.
