Which samples would be the best ones to discriminate accurately North and South Italy among modern pop averages datasheet refrences?

Puede que mis resultados no sean muy útiles para la misión de este hilo, pero si son útiles para saber que La Peninsula Iberica= Norte de Italia.
Con esto llego a la conclusión de que no existe el norte de italia, existe el sur de italia y el menos sur de italia, las dos son igual de med. (es una bromita pero mejor en castellano para que nadie se sulfure).

Pues nosotros, con solo samples franceses e italianos, uno norteafricano y uno irlandés, nos podemos modelar igualmente sin usar ni uno solo español igualmente.

Calma hombre, por que te liarias con algo tan facil? Yo he estado estudiando un poquito la genetica italiana a detalle (para ser honestos, es mas interesante que la española debido a que esta ultima es muy homogenea) y puedo hacerte un breakdown sencillo y que deberia separarse de esa manera, debido a que hay diferencias geneticas en el Norte de Italia (un veneciano podria ser geneticamente mas parecido a alguien de Eslovenia que a un liguriano, quien a su vez es mas parecido a alguien del Sureste de Francia o Monaco), y hay otras diferencias a tomar en cuenta. En el siguiente post que hare, saldra el breakdown.

If you don´t know how to do coordinate means you can run all the Campania individual samples comparing them to closer regions like Apulia or Calabria or Basilicata, and check if different obtained samples are mixed/interspersed or form a block that is clearly, too close, or too far.if non academical refrences make up a block, you could be right, if they are mainly mised in their order in the distances list (not necessarily very homogenously) you could be wrong.
It´s not a very accurate method because samples could come from a different zone in the same region that have a different admixture, but if they are clearly distants that should show it.
And if they are not academic samples but are close to academic ones, for me they are ok in the same.
Is an alternative way to check it. me for now, I will use the Campania sample as if it was legit, maybe another day I lose my time in making averages of non and academical samples you show us to see their differences.

Hombre, sirve para probar tu teoría de que escogiendo samples random de cada país cercano podría modelar a todos los españoles, está claro que no. Obviamente una muestra italiana del norte + sur de Francia se podría modelar bastante bien a un español.

Hombre, sirve para probar tu teoría de que escogiendo samples random de cada país cercano podría modelar a todos los españoles, está claro que no. Obviamente una muestra italiana del norte + sur de Francia se podría modelar bastante bien a un español.
Es que yo no dije eso, yo no dije coger samples random, yo dije modelar con todas las referencias de francia e italia, y añadir dos samples sueltos que nos rasquen un poco mas de distancia.

El valle de Aosta no es porque sea aleman, es porque es extremadamente frances. Su genetica no se diferencia en nada a los suizos franceses y por eso estan muy northwestern shifted, por eso yo tu no lo hubiese metido en el average.

I do not understand why you are putting aside Sicily but not Calabria .
I suggest
1= Sicily and Calabria
2= Abruzzo and Molise (Molise is more north shifted due to Longobard settlers)
3= the rest.

The problem with Calabria is that the sample is done only with 3 individuals so could be doubts about its representativity of whole Calabria.
You have 2 different options for South Italy, in one of them I added Calabria, (Southern_Italian_Mainland) and this source is completed using the Sicilian sample, that is the mean between East and West Sicilian.
I think the result is quite complete, and even you have several options to choose in some of them to get better representative results.

Did you check differences between the average of 10 non academic and 14 academic samples?
Is there any notable difefrence between both apart that how they were obtained?
I can't do it right now. You should probably just use the 14 samples from Raveane et al and the 2 from Lazaridis et al (ITS2 and ITS4) and label it Campania academic samples.

NE Italy can be easily done by grouping Italian_Veneto + Italian_Trentino-Alto-Adige + Italian_Northeast (Triveneto region).
For C. Italy, I'd go for Italian_Lazio + Italian_Tuscany + Italian_Umbria + Italian_Marche.

NW Italy is a problem. Swiss_Italian is acting almost as a Tuscan avg for some reason and Italian_Piedmont is pretty shaky.
I've read people saying Italian_Piedmont samples are from Val Borbera, which is "ethnically" Ligurian, I'm not sure if this is the case, could someone here confirm? :confused:
Anyways, a NW Italy sample would have a huge hole because it's missing the piece that would practically be its protagonist: a consistent Italian_Piedmont avg.

They are very outlying, I've seen probably dozens of Calabrian results on Gedmatch, the vast majority of them coming from Reggio Calabria/Vibo Valentia, and these G25 samples are even more outlying than what your average southern calabrian would be.

They are very outlying, I've seen probably dozens of Calabrian results on Gedmatch, the vast majority of them coming from Reggio Calabria/Vibo Valentia, and these G25 samples are even more outlying than what your average southern calabrian would be.
Gedmatch results and G25 not always show exactly the same, better compare gedmatch results vs gedmatch results and G25 ves G25 ones.

Anyway I've checked the list of Campanians from Raveane et al on G25 and 4 of them have like significant recent north African admixture. It's obvious that they are not natives since none of the other S. Italians or Sicilians have any of that. It looks like this mess of study have lumped for some reason a lot of mixed outliers inside the Campania cluster. A total shitshow.
Notice that the 8 samples from 23andme are similar to Apulians in their ancestry proportions (total Euro 79,8 vs 80).
