I have 422 "DNA matches" from USA, 196 from Germany, 107 from Hungary, 69 from Great Britain, 50 from Slovakia, 47 from France, 47 from Poland, 43 from Netherlands, 38 from Czech etc. What does this mean? The closest matches have these type of surnames (from most common to least): hungarian/slavic, german, anglo, there's a Patel too lol.

1.) To use Gedmatch go on www.gedmatch.com
2.) Make an account
3.) On the right side bar will be an option called "Upload your DNA files: Generic Uploads (23andme, FTDNA, AncestryDNA, most others) click this...
4.) Follow instructions to upload kit
5.) After kit is uploaded you will now see the kit # on the home page. Copy this # to use it in calculators.
6.) Now go to the option on the right side bar again called" DNA Applications" and go to the 5th option called "One-to-One X-DNA Comparison
Admixture (heritage)" this is where you will be able to test calculators

Congrats bro. Nice dna results. I suggest you to use G25 calculators they are more accurate. And if you will buy your coordinates you can use Myheritage G25 and push your Hungarian to the limith and see what else you score its the accurate way to cheak if u do have more ethnics backgrounds

I don't think G25 is worth of money for him. Vahaduo K13 is free and much more relevant for Hungarians because it has regional clusters. Other gedmatch calculators are updated too.
G25 is overrated to be honest, good only for ancient admixture which I don't think he cares much about. Their modern references are poor and often lacking/unrepresentative.

He can eventually convert his myheritage raw data to 23andme V3 format to get more snps. But I don't think it's necessary.

Congratulations! Just about what I expected :) Mostly East European, Balkan and the standard 7-10% West European (for many Hungarians), some people also get Finnish, that's interesting and I don't know what to say about the Ashkenazi because it's over 5% for you, so it's possible. But let's see your GEDmatch and then we can draw the conclusion.

And Vahaduo, Admixture Studio, these are very important too!

I think it is much faster, it doesn't need to be fully processed for you to run calculators. Usually it's half hour wait or even less. Try link I posted for haplogroups if you have time, this works immediately just plug in your raw data. :)

It's a "low confidence match", which myheritage defines this way:
It is uncertain whether this DNA Match is a distant relative, or is not related to you at all. This is based on the low size and number of shared DNA segments.

My high confidence matches are almost exclusively hungarians, slovaks and czechs (they may be czechs of slovak or hungarian descent, idk), they're mostly hungarians though. Which makes sense because I'm of partial slovak origin.

I know myheritage is kinda amateur company compared to 23andme but I am interested in the raw data that can be used for gedmatch calculators, it also costs less than 23andme.

I score exact same percentage of Ashkenazi like you on myheritage (literally same!) But I don't score it anywhere else (23andme, FTDNA, Dna Land, Gedmatch) so take it with grain of salt. Do you have many Jewish matches? You must have many if you have genuine Jewish ancestry.

I agree with you but on other hand. Dont forget that in Hungary the largest community of jews lived in Hungary for around 1600 years. And many Jews feels close with locals and left Judaisem and convert to Catholocism and married with Hungarians females and males. And Myheritage did a research and they post that Hungary is the biggest Country with Jew dna after Israel. Another thing from my own view is that I been twice in Hungary and I think that Hungarian have simmilar faces with Ashkenazis. In Budapest I feel like a Local people there always in stores and in everywhere speak with me Hungarian. Even in Tourists places. So I think it could be. Use J Test Calculator in gedmatch if u get more then 4% you could be around 5-6% Ashkenazi. It goes like full Ashekanzi score from 28-30% Ashekanzi in this calculator.

But you likely don't have any Jewish ancestry. 23andme is very precise in detecting Jewish ancestry and I got 0.3% there. On MyHeritage I don't have any, nor does anyone else in my family, but I am sure that it is real and it comes from my dad.

My mother is from Bács-Kiskun and my father is from Békés. However if we go back in time, their ancestors(at least most of them) came from northern Hungary and settled in south after the expulsion of Ottomans. Keep in mind Hungary at the time was larger and northern Hungary could've meant Slovakia. I may have ancestry from Western Hungary and from Balkans too. I only know my recent ancestry well.

Wow, looks like you're literally a "fucking Slav" :eek: I didn't expect that. However you score virtually no Mongoloid. Are your origins from east of the Danube?

His haplogroup is most likely Slavic too (not that hg matters, just saying). I2 in Hungary is overwhelmingly dinaric clade which is Slavic, but there is Germanic type of I2 present in smaller amounts too, user Oszkar has it.

For me K15 seems pretty good, however it may just be that the K15 component balance is better suited to my mix. It models me more German/Hungarian vs. the NW + Balkan modeling I get on most other calculators. Or it could be that I really am more a NW/Balkan mix and K15 is ironically incorrect?

Anyway, just something for you to think about as you consider the accuracy of the various calcs.

K36 IMO, but most are trash. K13 is better than most because it has a lot of relevant regional references. In this aspect, it is even better than Global 25.

Could be. Red sea is elevated, your east med is also little high considering how northeastern your results are. IMHO it's possible you are few percent Jewish, but only trough matches it can be confirmed for certain.

Could be. Red sea is elevated, your east med is also little high considering how northeastern your results are. IMHO it's possible you are few percent Jewish, but only trough matches it can be confirmed for certain.

And he has low West Asian - not sure what to make of that or how it could play into potential Jewish ancestry?

Ashkenazi is low, based on this you don't have any significant (if at all) Jewish. However I'm not sure how reliable that calc is. It should be though.

I would estimate you are around 75% proto Slavic with rest being pre-Slavic, mostly south Euro like admixture but west Euro too. Asian is basically zero.
This is very high because many Hungarians are just around 50% early Slavic, some less than that. Ofcourse many are much more but you are surely among top when it comes to early Slavic influence.

Compared to Stears you have less Balkan than him, much more Slavic, less German(ic) and less Asian (mongoloid-kavkaz-indian).

There's one guy who scored over 40% baltic and Dunai said he only included people who are at least 6/8 magyar by ancestry.

Your north atlantic isn't that low. It isn't high either though. Stears scores same like you, but much lower Baltic ofc. Your west Asian is low, similar to my north Hungarian friend who tested.

Yes, but I barely have any detectable Germanic, on most calculators I don't get any Germanic at all. If I have some, it might come from my mother. I tend to get lots of West Asian and South European which is unusual for a Hungarian. See my signature this is what I get on G25 Myheritage and in other G25 calculators I always get some Anatolian or lots of Caucasian (10-20%).

They could be. Eastern Hungary/Alföld in general is more slavic than western part on avarage, not sure about Southeast specifically. West is more german admixed. The difference is not huge though.

Sometimes you inherit more specific admixture than parents. For example I am more northern shifted than both of my parents. We didn't test with same company though so maybe that's a reason (their test had significantly less SNPs). You know when people wonder why two siblings look completely different while having same DNA? It's because actually they might not have identical DNA, one inherited more of specific DNA than other.

Regarding's Mingle post, I don't think you are typical for SE Hungary. That's why you get North Hungarian before Alfoldi on K13. But surely there are individuals like you in SE Hungary, I just don't think they are the norm.

Dunai made Alfoldi average from samples native to both north and south of great Hungarian plain. Maybe you can ask him to send you results only from southern Alfold to compare. He has them.

Yes, that person is haplogroup N also. Typical Vojvodina Hungarians are probably quite Swabian admixed. That region had some of highest German concentration overall, especially in Banat.
They should be pretty different from Szekelys.

Representative of Tepecik ancestry in the Balkans are the Neolithic Greeks, Krepost sample from Bulgaria. Also others in Italy, especially Bronze Age+, have this type of ancestry. Tepecik seems to be an eastern shifted neolithic farmer due natufian admixture, i highly recommend to only use Barcin N for calculating EEF admixture.

I'm glad someone's asking this so I can say what I think about the whole thing.
The following text will be partially addressed to you, partially to others who are curious about my origins and identity.

I didn't want to say what % slovak I am by ancestry because I don't know exactly, but since you're asking this, I will say 50%.

Let me explain what I meant by "I don't know exactly":

My mother has dual identity (but I think her hungarian identity is stronger than slovak), my father has hungarian identity. Paternal grandparents identify as hungarian, my maternal grandparents I don't know, because they died like 15 years ago and I never discussed this with them, but I think they had dual identity like my mother.

My paternal grandma says my father's ancestry is 100% hungarian but for me it's hard to believe knowing how multiethnic Hungary was in the past. My maternal ancestry is said to be purely slovak but it's hard to believe as well (at least to me), since my slovak ancestors came from North Hungary in early 1700s to middle of Hungary and were surrounded by magyars ever since. They were from Nógrád, Hont and Nyitra vármegye's which ethically weren't homogeneous places, no one really knows if they mixed with other ethnicities or not while they were still in Northern Hungary. I can't be sure because I never really researched my family tree.

The following text will be partially addressed to you, partially to others who are curious about my origins and identity.

I didn't what to say what % slovak I am by ancestry because I don't know exactly, but since you're asking this, I will say 50%.

Let me explain what I meant by "I don't know exactly":

My mother has dual identity (but I think her hungarian identity is stronger than slovak), my father has hungarian identity. Paternal grandparents identify as hungarian, my maternal grandparents I don't know, because they died like 15 years ago and I never discussed this with them, but I think they had dual identity like my mother.

My paternal grandma says my father's ancestry is 100% hungarian but for me it's hard to believe knowing how multiethnic Hungary was in the past. My maternal ancestry is said to be purely slovak but it's hard to believe as well (at least to me), since my slovak ancestors came from early 1700s to middle of Hungary and were surrounded by magyars ever since. They were from Nógrád, Hont and Nyitra vármegye's which were ethically weren't homogeneous places, no one really knows if they mixed with other ethnicities or not while they were still in Northern Hungary. I can't be sure because I never really researched my family tree.

I agree with you, it's still easier to find Hungarians who are very East Slavic like you or very South Slavic or even South European at this point, like myself.

No doubt, I can very easily understand how you relate to your identity after this explanation. Identity is basically a cultural inheritance, and no matter what our family tree or genes show about us, we still are the culture in which we were raised in. Now that you say you are possibly one half Slovak, your very high Baltic starts to make plenty of sense. I would also wish for much more Hungarian sample size, but curiously, my average, which is based on over 200 people is almost the same with the previous one, which was based on way-way lesser people. So I'm feeling even if we increase the sample size to 10 or 50000, the Hungarian average will still resemble to the current one. In regional cases there might be some fluctuation because right now most are only based on a few dozens of people, but I also don't believe too great of a difference will appear.

i mean on Docedad K12b on harappaworld on k15 and k10 you have Hungarian in your top 3 as 1 population so that speaks for itself i think. those calculators work for most people. and even though K13 might be the most populair it does not mean that it should also work for you and even there you score Croatian in your top 3 and if i remember correctly Croatian an Hungarian populations are very close geneticly.
