Mostly Colonial New England K13 Results

A childhood friend of mine entered his raw dna results into Gedmatch and it shows mostly German rather than English. The odd thing is that he has an extensive family tree with all of his ancestors traced to their period of entry into the U.S. Four of his great-great grandparents were the children of immigrants (a French Canadian, an Irishman, a Polish woman, and a German from the Rhineland). Other than that, all of his ancestors were overwhelmingly English with the exception of a Dutchman from New Netherland and a Rhineland Palatinate.


He was born in Northwestern Connecticut, with his family having settled there in the late XVIII century, they had come from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. His direct ancestors include members of the Winthrop fleet along with Samuel Wilbore, founder of Rhode Island. Most of the Englishmen did hail directly from Essex and East Anglia. Some of his English ancestors have family trees dating far back, and we can find individuals who have Norman ancestry along with a handful of Irish, all in the XI century.

Also, he does have a third-great-grandfather whom was born in New York, but whose ancestors were Rhinelanders arriving in New York in 1709. Through this line he is also descended from Laurens Van Alen c1632-1714, a Dutch settler to Fort Orange, New Netherland (later Albany, NY) from Overijssel in the Netherlands.

His French ancestors hailed mostly from Paris, along with some from Brittany and Aquitaine. He is a direct ancestor of Samuel de Champlain as well.

Through his French Canadian ancestors, he does have a Huron 10th Great Grandmother, baptised as Marie-Olivier Sylvestre and having lived c1624 to 1665. He is descended from her more than once.

Additionally, his Polish ancestors hail from the Tatra Mountains region of Poland, and his most recent German ancestor from Rhineland arriving in the mid-XIX century.
