This is the notion of Greek nationalism because the cities in these shores used to be Greek speaking even in modernity, people that are indeed similar to Greek islanders both in genetics and highly in culture. The reality is that when some modern Turks actually hail from these coastal cities, a large percentange of them are transplanted Anatolians who pretend to be natives.
