I notice that Hungarians often have some Balkan admixture although the amount can vary greatly. What are the origins of the Balkan admixture in Hungarians? What specific Balkan groups did they mix with or assimilate? Was it from mixing with nearby Romanians, Serbs, or Croatians? I welcome any thoughts.

Good question, they would have had admixture with the Slavic population that was in Pannonia and possibly vlachs. Not sure how Balkan like the native slav's were or if they were closer to Croats or Serbs genetically. Hungarians are in general genetically closer to Croats. That said during the Ottoman incursions I have read up to 10,000 Serbs took refuge in Hungary, but unsure what % of those Serbs intermixed or settled to later become Hungarians. The assumption would be that they didnt intermix or intermarry too much due to their Orthodox faith, however quite likely that there were many exceptions to that also.

Before the arrvial of Hunganrian Conqueres, the Pannonian Basin was occupied by White Croats. Logically not all came down through Slovenia. Which adds alot of Croatian blood to Hungarians. Another Great Croatian addon to Hungary was during the Ottoman times that is where alot of Croats fled to Hungary for safety. That are just two simple reasons.

Just to add Croats and Hungarians share quite alot of Scythian Blood. As a matter of fact Hungarans and Croats are quite similiar or rather almost the same. Where Hungarians tend to go towards Croats autosomally and almost overlap completley.

There is a Hungarian phrase where they mentioned that Croats have the same father just different mothers :)

My two Cents

Probably Illyrians?

" Others migrated or were forcefully resettled in different regions. Some groups like the Azali were transferred from their homeland to frontier areas (northern Hungary) after the Great Illyrian Revolt. "

I don't get this Illyrian craze. Thing is i am as Croatian as it gets from fathers side and from Mothers side from the deepest depths of Bosnia (Croat) and they have roots from Dalmatia. 800 years back and i don't have much Illiran in me just a little Roman. I did a Whole Genome Sequencing and it shows no Illyrian but more Roman and even that is nothing worthy to talk about.

Until people here stop using Bullshit calculators like G25 or Vahaduo or anyhting else and freaking just grab some money and do the Whole Genome Sequencing then things would be alot more clear.
Actual Geneticist told me that that all those calculators should be taken as a fun thing and nothing for serious stuff.
