Your genome exists objectively (raw data), and it can be described in many ways (tools), using a variety of coordinates. The diversity of classification arises from the fact that the world can be divided across many lines, but it doesn't change the biological reality.
For example, Europe can be divided into Southern and Northern, and Western and Eastern. One tool uses N-S, another W-E. You find on one tool that you have 80% N elements, and on another that you have 80% W elements. Considering them, you conclude that you are mostly North-Western. Yet another tool divides Europe into Atlantic, Uralic, Balkan, Iberian. You score 70% on Atlantic - which says a similar thing to the N-S and W-E tools, but in different words. Some tools zoom in further to look at smaller regions, some provide very complex coordinates.
Using many different tools and measuring your genome on different factors, you can conclude as to its nature. Some tools are not precise, but a good way to see the merit of a tool is too look at how reasonably it describes the general relation between various nations. Dodecad and Eurogenes are both quite reasonable in this aspect.

Are both your parents tested? I found that the Oracle results based on the average values of my mom and dad's v3 K=12 components were more in line with my known ancestry. The same can be applied to siblings. I am not sure if anyone has tested 4 grandparents, but this, in theory, would help refine the Oracle results even further for an individual. The benefits of having a larger sample size. The population averages are simply extensions of this. Helps to reduce the possible effects of ordinary individual variation. Assuming a relatively homogeneous population.

And, you can then try mapping the "mix," to see if you can make sense of it from a different perspective. The "X" marks the spot where other analyses have suggested my ancestral origins lie (McDonald, Population Finder, etc.). Tbilisi was used for the Georgian population, and Baghdad for the Iraqi Jewish population. As one or both of these locations may not accurately capture the average geographical origins of the two population samples in question, there is a degree of error which certainly must be allowed for. The arrows represent (at least in part) that potential error. And, given that the error appears to be one of latitude, rather than longitude, and the Georgian placement, north to south, does not leave much room for adjustment, I reckon the error lies with the placement of the Iraqi Jews. They are too far to the south. But, either way, it is certainly in the ballpark. If your top "mix" predictions are within a reasonable distance of one another, you can repeat this for as many mix combinations as there are, and then determine the average of these points.

To give you an idea why this can occur, and how combining values can help better approximate actual ancestry, we need only look at the difference in the "West Asian" component for my father and paternal uncle:

It may not always fit so neatly, but I think you see what I am getting at. Results running Oracle at 47.6% or 52.6% "West Asian" will not be as consistent with results generated for the Assyrian population. This will be reflected in your predicted "mix" populations and percentages. And, for some, it may lead to some curious results. Combining values of two parents, or four grandparents, most likely will better capture one's ancestry in Oracle. At least, in my case, I have found it to be so.

Not true. The tests many of them ARE conflicting. Take 23andme, dienekes, and polako's. On polako's tests the british islanders and scandinavians show almost no non northern european admixture. In dienekes test they show something like 20-30% non northern european admixture. That is pretty substantial if you ask me. 23andme labels almost every euro as 100% or 99%. Again SUBSTANIAL.
Thats just different interpretation.
The "non-European admixture" that Dienekes or Eurogenes show is like 7.000 or 10.000 years old. Neolithic farmers DNA and all that.
Specially "West-Asian" could be interpreted as "Early farmer" aDNA.
Others claim, "West-Asian" admixture would be the "Indoeuropean" one (Caucasus/Anatolian Indoeuropean origin hyphothesis)
One needs to alter ones views on these "Non-European" components.
All Europeans somehow came from outside of Europe and its totaly normal, that they carry DNA material that exists outside of Europe or even has its distributional center outside of Europe.

Plus I would additional look in 23andMe what people you share long segments with (other than the "expected" own group... (that theory that long segments of shared DNA are a sign of beeing "recently" (last couple centuries maybe) related and not just having the same DNA by random re-combining. This would help to pick, what suggested combinations of "Oracle" may be likely, if there is no "Family Lore".
I for example, have 3 out of 4 Grandparents from "Prussia" (beeing from there, mixing with Poles is likely) and one Great Great Grandparent from Lithuania.
In fact 23andMe finds quiet a lot Poles in the 5-7cM region, suggesting "recent" (last couple century) shared anchestors. Of course, nobody knows WHAT anchestors I may share with them. Maybe they had German ones. Who knows. But you need something to start with. ;)
"Oracle" suggests that my results are close to what is expected from 95% average German mixed by 5% average Pole.
Or same with Lithuanian.

Cool, figured I'd be closest to the Utahn's and such than to Old Worlder's as many Utahn's have Southron roots aways back (via Arkansas).
Of these it's hard to guess since they're all so similar, if it's any help about 60% of my ancestors came from the British Isle's, the remaining 40% or so is split between German, Portuguese and French along with some completely unknown ancestries. These figures change all depending on the status of my pedigree research, future changes shan't change much in the lines of the British Isles figure is pretty much a constant.Quote:

The rough message is, that you are more Med/southern Euro than the average Uthan (CEU)
Thats why it wants to mix the average Utahn with a little bit French, Italian, Greek, Jewish or Turk to match your values.
Same for the Brit aberation. It wants to mix Brits with either Italians, Balkans (highly Med) or Romanians to re-create your results.
And the last section I posted shows, beeing half German half French could cause results like yours too.
Well, you could also look at the numbers that show how close.

You have increased (compared to the most of the British Isles) Eastern European, Mediterranean and West Asian. Thats why it looks so much for Southeast Europeans (Italians, Balkans, Greece etc), to explain all 3 with a single admixture event.
And it also explains why it prefers Scotts or Orkneys on the other end (elevated Eastern European level)
One thing I'm looking for is a possible connection to chestnut Ridge like folks after realizing that the Chestnut Ridge folks were from Barbour County, Barbour County is adjacent to Taylor and Preston Counties as is Monongalia County which borders with Wetzel County. My great grandfather and his parents+siblings moved between Wetzel and Monongalia Counties so they're in a similar locality as the Chestnut Ridge folks.
That part of my family tree has some holes in it that need filled.
Do you know from where in Germany your ancestors are from? I have more German ancestry than the average American (PA Dutch) and my E Euro is in the lower 20% range, my W Asian in 8%. If they are from the more Eastern Parts of Germany that could account for your higher E Euro.
East European could be increased by Scotts, Scandinavians, Germans. For example.
Or by actual Eastern Europeans.
You are about as "Eastern European" as a Scott or Norwegian (Wich is actually 4 times as Eastern European as other British Isles inhabitants are. But not as Eastern European as a Swede or German for example.
the West Asian is so little higher than British or German levels, that I wouldnt even think about it. (average is 7% and you have 8.x%)... means: BLA ;) But Oracle still trys to come as close to your result as possible and that means, it looks for a source that actually provides West Asian too.
Looking at the map, Dutch even have 8% on average. But Dutch arent picked as source for that, because they dont provide high level of Eastern European or Med. Thats again the tricky thing. A simple tool like Oracle wants to explain ALL the aberation with ONE admixture event. But thats usualy far from reality, specially for Americans I think.
Cool, so it is indeed my Scots and German connections, I do have a genetic "cousin" on 23andMe that is Swedish so that may be hinting something too, also some Russian Relative Finder matches (caught me by surprise).
If there is a true East European connection I would have to attribute that to coal miners as in the South of my home county coal mining is a big part of the economy as well as the parts of Kentucky near to my home county.
It's not working for me I'm afraid. I don't think it's compatible with the latest version of mac. I even installed the updates that should patch things properly.
