It doesn't make sense to make one average for a region, if there are two distinct genetic groups in this region.
It would be like making one average for "Pre-War Warsaw" and averaging together ethnic Polish and Jewish samples.
In Provence some individuals are North Italian genetically and others are Central French. These are academic samples.
I didn't know what Septimania was, so I'm sure many others wouldn't as well. It's an historical name. Modern regional names should be used for modern people. Belgica = French_North, Armorica = French_Northwest, Aquitania = French_Southwest.Quote:

By the way, ITA Aosta Valley is quite similar to FRA Rhone-Alpes.
So why shouldn't Provence be more southern-shifted than Aosta?
Provence is located to the south of Rhone-Alpes after all.
Coastal Provence was inhabited by the Ligures in ancient times.
