Hi, thanks. But Kuban has no Crimean Tatars, they must belong to some other group, I would guess the Kuban Nogais. Mainland Russia has virtually no Crimean Tatars.

I'm afraid you just averaged samples from different subgroups.

Around 1/3 of Crimean Tatars in population-wise, who lives/lived in the Balkans and the Crimean Peninsula identify as Nogay as well. The borders between Crimean Tatars and Nogais are pretty much disappeared in the last 200 years. Many identify under "Nogay tribe" of Crimean Tatars. That's why I included Kuban Nogais to the average and called them Crimean Tatars.

However, when excluding them(14-15-16 in the table, one of them were mixed with actual Crimean Tatars already)

I don't know then. Still not sure Steppe Crimeans and Caucasian Nogais are the same. Let's not delete the old CT Steppe average for now.

Azerbaijani from Sheki (75%) and Ilisu, Zagatala(25%). Probably the highest Caucasus component I have seen in Azerbaijanis.

There was an CHG influx after the neolothic period in anatolia. ancient results resemble sardinians, but CHG input later changed the genetic make up completely.

Both haplogroups are not particularly "deep" so yeah could be anything. Also migrations from anatolia to the area could have brought Varangian or Galatian lineages

In regards to Varangians the interesting thing is, there are clusters of I1 in the Northern Azerbaijan in places like Gabala, Agdash, Gusar. These are probably part of the Varangian raids.
Apparently, they used to raid the area from Volga through the Caspian sea.
