Granted it's sometimes hard to physically distinguish a Gypsy (Romani) from a Spaniard but please post pictorial examples of Spanish Gypsies (Gitanos).

They became distinct from Roma early on since Spanish law forced them to stop being nomadic and settle, there was a great cultural at least exchange between them the Sephardic and the Must Arab community for a long time so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some genetic exchange however like Gigolo has pointed out many Calo are actually more Indian looking than Roma on average then again you also have a fair amount that don't look so Gypsy at all.

I honestly haven't read up on their genetic studies in particular.

I'm sorry Gigs I don't mean to contradict you but I have read about this in too many books. Due to the fact that Spanish Gypsies were forced from migrating early on from their arrival in Spain they formed their own tribe i.e Calo like you have said, however since Calo language is not so much mutually intelligible with Romany they generally do not consider themselves as Roma. I know the view of Gypsies in the Balkans may be different about them but it is how they see themselves, they still see themselves as gypsies of course they are "Gitanos" but they see Gypsies as subdivided into different tribes Roma being one that they do not belong to. I take it you see Roma as a catchall term for Gypsy in general but they do not.
