Czechoslovakia was home to many Jewish intellectuals. Max Brod for instance was a close friend of both Masaryk and Benes. A lot of European nations were supportive of Israel a few decades ago (before the farce of Palestinian nationalism formed) due to sympathy over the holocaust. But Czechoslovakia was also herself a very young country, which surely contributed to her solidarity with the Jewish state's struggle for independence. Why is Czechia still pro-Israel? Decades of friendship and a strong backlash to the pro-Arab policy of the communist era, which was orchestrated by the Soviets against public opinion.
