    Default What is your favorite type of European food?

    What is your favorite European food? I notice that American food (esp. fast food) can be pretty mundane, so I'm learning new German and Italian recipes.

    I grew up in a German American family that had cultural influence from living in Transdniester. My family had interesting recipes that blended Ukrainian food with German food. My favorite foods tend to be rather heavy, though, like Knepfla (German cheese ravioli), sauerkraut, which I heard tends to be an acquired taste, and lots of potatoes.

    Italian, Spanish, and French food. I especially love me some o' these.



    My aunt always used to bring some frozen frogs' legs with 'er whenever she visited. Mother would always season 'em with adobo and fry 'em. Loved 'em ever since. Would live on 'em and stuffed shells alone, if I could.

    In that region everybody eats a lot of potatoes. Usually a dinner is a soup and a second dish, meat and potatoes is standard. Also, sauerkraut, pickles, herrings, rye bread, cabbage, lots and lots of meat ( there are more sausage kinds that I can count ) are foods people eat all the time. People eat meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. It's really tasty and good food, but I doubt it's the healthiest.

    Default My favorite European food

    Though I am of Norwegian ancestry, I must confess that I eat and cook more Italian food than any other kind. I prefer the cuisine of Abruzzo and the area about Milan to the tomato-rich dishes of the Bay of Naples.

    N.B., though, I DO cook and eat Norwegian food and serve it to my guests at Christmas. Roast pork, a Norwegian holiday staple in my grandmother's day, is featured in my Christmas dinners. I also celebrate Julaften and serve fiskeboller i kvit saus, korv [I know, korv is Swedish, but I bend tradition a bit because it's so delicioius], and flatbrod med gjetost.

    Of course, all this Norsk provender is washed down with mead and followed by glogg.

    So far the Spanish and Italian, both are the ones I found myself more easy to get used to and like. French, not so much like their desserts tho.

    I like pasta and bread, but they're kind of like American foods given the popularity here. My mother makes sauerkraut sometimes and oh my that shit is nasty lol. I guess my favorite is mediterranean foods, with a lot of vegetables and no meat.
