Serbs are essentially a mix of old Paleo-Balkan peoples and Slavs when it comes to genetics. Y-DNA haplogroups, mtDNA and autosomal DNA all seem to support this.

If I compare Serbians to Bosniaks, I have seen a lot of Serbians who look exactly Turkish but it turns out they are "Serbian". Bosniaks on the other hand look full European. I never met a Bosniak who looked Turkish. I think this has to do with Ottoman policy. Ottoman officials were allowed to "take" Christian girls for their pleasure and after that a baby popped out and they became Serbian.
