going only trough what i have seen. there are people all over country in college and been around all regions except istria (met quite a few in zagreb though)
from lightest to darkest
1. zagorje/međimurje/gorski kotar - basically kajkavian speaking nw croatia bordering slovenia. This is only area where blonds and redheads are common even in groups and you don't need to cherrypick light hair individuals among sea of darkies lmao. these are similary fair as slovenes
2. region around zagreb, baranja, north slavonia - these are still pretty light and well inside central european spectrum. And again kajkavian predominately with some štokavians in east slavonia. close to magyars in coloring. this includes majority of vojvodina croats.
3. kvarner (around rijeka) - pretty light for coast, still visibly darker than any panonnian region. intermediate between western slovenia and dalmatia, probably close to furlans (italy) in pigmentation. čakavian region.
4. southern slavonia, lika, istria - mostly brunet blonds are few. this is where balkan types start to pop out really frequently and central/eastern european types are less. štokavian region with some čakavian and kajkavian islands mixed in. zagreb (city) - dark compared to immediate surroundings. it's mix of people from all over. aimilar to average bosnians i guess. bosnian croats also belong there.
5. dalmatia - swarthy. Some islands are lighter it seems, but they are dark end of croatian spectrum. Light hair is rare among adults. balkanic looking. similar to serbs and romanians. mix of čakavians and štokavians.
7. herzegovina - even swarthier than dalmatia and most balkan looking. close to montenegrins and some north albanians in pigmentation. štokavians.
