I have seen Romanians and some other Balkanites get close matching with Avar samples. Such is not terribly surprising for them. My mom, with no known Balkan ancestry, is in the top 98% on MTA for Avar relatedness. Maybe something to do with the White Croats? We are part Polski after all..
