Moldovan/Romanian GEDmatch Results v2

Below quote in Russian is from 1817, so who knows how many Slavs have been assimilated to identify as Moldovan since then. This explains logically why some results are visibly very outlying.
For example I found this village today in the Centre of the country, which is 99% Moldovan.


However among surnames, pure Moldovan ones are less than 10% (blue).
Unsurprisingly, the village is correctly classified as Ukrainian in the map from the Russian Empire's 1897 census

Interesting ancestry of an individual from Chisinau. One parent is from Chisinau, and the other one from Cahul, in the German colony of Alexanderfeld. One German great-grandparent, so pretty irrelevant genetically.
In Soviet times, Alexanderfeld lost most of its German population (was fully German at censuses in 1917 and 1930), and got populated by a mix of Moldovans/Romanians, Ukrainians, Russians, Bulgarians and Gagauzes.
