2 kits from Cahul, which push into the Northern end, meaning that there are profiles more typical to the Central/Northern regions in the South as well. I didn't doubt that personally, considering how few kits from the South I have compared to the other regions. But it is still obvious that people here have a more Southern genetic shift on average.

Funnily enough, for both of them the algorithm picked Moldova_South instead of other regions and then assigned some Ukrainian and Bulgarian, both of which could be real, as there are many culturally assimilated folk there, which is obvious to me from the surnames in some villages.

I've received clarification on this one. While the individual was born in Bacau, parents come from Anghelesti in Vrancea, which just on the "border". Maybe that village has a history of Tatar/Cuman settlements, or maybe it's just an ocurrence on an individual level.

Yes, that is a trend for some people there. And it can be a bit tricky at the beginning to distinguish between Hungarian and Romanian, because a lot of them don't identify as such.

Remember the 22 or so Csangos that we have? None of them identifies as Hungarian/Csango but as Romanian or Catholic Romanian. The person that provided me with 20 kits confirmed that she knows that for some the grandparents spoke the Csango dialect, while for others it is more distant at great-grandparent level. They are aware that their ancestors were Hungarians, but don't see themselves as such. As she said, she didn't even know what a Csango was before doing the autosomal test and learning about them and then growing more interested to test other villagers.
But they are all Csangos from a genetic aspect, because they did not mix outside of those villages. And in their case it is easier to preserve their Csango mix undilluted, because they choose a partner according to their faith, which is Roman-Catholic. And in that region Roman-Catholics are almost exclusively Csangos/Hungarians. What also unites them is a genetic signal that is typical of populations that derive from partially inbred ancestors, like Jews for example.

That's why when someone has Csango ancestry, they will see a lot of such matches at the top, primarily from these kits because they are picked from about 4 major Roman-Catholic villages in Neamt county.
This is not the case for the individual from above, which makes me think that her East Asian/Siberian mix could be unrelated to Hungarians.
