View of eastern Herzegovina from Srđ fortress above Dubrovnik
It's a stone desert mainly, with super low population, so I don't buy the story such huge amount of people (meaning Serbs) originate from there.
Doesn't make any sense.

When it is said Herzegovina, it means not only todays eastern Herzegovina, but historical Herzegovina, with parts of west Montenegro, southwest Serbia, and this already mentioned upper Podrinje (Foča-Goražde region).
As I said few months ago, it is not only Herzegovina as a place of origin of western Serbs, but also neighbouring regions. It is mentined that Austrian diplomat found Serbs in Bosanska Krajina who said their origin from Smederevo. That doesnt mean litteraly Smederevo as a towns, but Smederevo sanjak, that comprised lot o todays central and western Serbia.
One interesting thing I found is toponymes in close Višegrad surrounding:
They resemble Krajina Serbs.
There are villages Uništa, Mirlovići in northern Dalmatia, Kosovo polje near Knin, Babin Potok is village in Lika, Dubovik in Bosanska Krajina.
Rodić is well known Krajina Serb surname.

Istočna Hercegovina je u zadnjih +500 godina izrazito iseljeničko područje.
One of the most beautiful places in eastern Herzegovina to me is Dabar field https://bs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dabarsko_polje

Few more toponymes in Višegrad surroundings that resemble Krajina Serbs.
Strmica in northern Dalmatia (Knin), Turjak and Međeđa in Bosanska Krajina (Dubica and Gradiška), Bjelajci near Pakrac in western Slavonia.

Riđane in Dalmatian Kosovo near Knin and Riđani near Nikšić, Pađene near Knin and Pađeni near Bileća etc. Look at this http://nebojsavukanovic.info/hercego...inu-i-krajini/
Uništa is only ikavian speaking village in Bosansko Grahovo minicipality. Both Serbs and Croatians from Uništa used ikavian. Both settled from Vrlika area in 19th century.

^those subclades definitely originate from the very sparsely populated Old Herzegovina, they simply migrated to empty areas and had a huge population boom there.
and that's without r1a and i2. for those it's harder to distinguish which subclades are from Herzegovina and which from elsewhere.
