Those 30ish samples from Balti city (Triska et al. 2017 academic samples) are not from there by the way. More likely by Balti the researchers meant Balti as in region.
And my reasoning for that comes from the fact that after uploading them to GEDmatch in order to take a closer look, I found that 22 of them are close matches to each other; other 3 are matching each other closely but not those, and 6 are unrelated to these and each other. Those last ones could be from the city.

Some of those from the 22 and 3 related are even at grandparent - nephew relationship, but most of them are 70cM+ to 800cM matches.
This is impossible in a big city, unless they literally grabbed a panel of relatives. But in a small village of up to about 4k people, it is normal to have relationships of 70-100cM for non-related people. This is the case with samples from Caplani, Costesti, Cazaclia and 3 of my parents' personal matches on MyHeritage that come from the same villages as them.

Obviously I can't place them in a specific village, but they are probably from somewhere at the crossroads of Singerei, Falesti, Glodeni, so stranding the Western side of Balti, rather than Eastern. That's because some of them match to up to 60cM some of my confirmed samples from villages in that area.

Considering that those in red look generously mixed with Ukrainians and that there is also some light South Asian admix, it should be an area within the below that fits these criteria.

I think I will research this further and likelier remove those that look like villagers from the same place from the city average. Those 22 will go into Balti county, but for the other 3 I will have to look into closer to understand where they could come from in that region.

I think I will research this further and likelier remove those that look like villagers from the same place from the city average. Those 22 will go into Balti county, but for the other 3 I will have to look into closer to understand where they could come from in that region.
