Despite our admixtures, central Ukrainians are closer to central Russians than anyone else. You are very far from Poles, it's almost the same with Russians. Small differences.

Both Poles and Russians are foreign to me culturally.

You are exaggerating. Russian regions near Ukraine are not much different from Ukrainians in general. And, of course, this exaggeration is fuelled by political motives, who want to portray Ukrainians as Western Europeans, very different from their cousins the Russians. But reality says otherwise.

You are conflating genetically with culturally. Your tiny genetic differences from Russians are not responsible for your cultural differences. That's more political.

It is Volyn that is closest to the Russians, not even to the Belarusians. Kiev is identical. The southern regions of Ukraine have their own impurities. The eastern regions are almost identical. Well, it makes no sense to tear a Belarusian, a central Ukrainian or a central Russian from each other, there are negligible differences. The Poles are on the sidelines, they are right very on the sidelines
