MOSCOW, May 22 (Reuters) - Russian patriotic bloggers expressed anger on Wednesday over the arrest of the former commander of Russia's 58th army, who was detained for fraud, and cast him as a talented general who had the courage to speak the truth to incompetent superiors.
Russia's state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday that Major General Ivan Popov had been arrested on suspicion of "large-scale fraud".
It was not possible to contact Popov directly, who Russian media said stood accused of stealing 100 million roubles ($1.1 million) of metal.

I feel like the ultimate goal is quite similar to Irredentist ideas which exist for decades - SE coming home, Central Ukraine becoming the neutral landlocked Ukrainian ethnostate under strong Russian influence, Western Ukraine going anywhere.
Also, pragmatically for the state, SE is a sweet piece of cake full of resources and fertile lands we're gonna take right from the mouth of Monsanto, Blackrock and other transnational corporations.
If Ukraine was not naughty, everything would be Ukraine nowadays, including Donbass and Crimea, what is happening now with Ukraine is the consequences of own choice.

As we say here, "The forest is being cut down, splinters are flying". I don't have opinion on this arrest and I'm not an investigator or responsible person who knows any details. All the bloggers like this belong to one or another influential groups, who oppose each other.

Ukrainian spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk stated on television that the attack, which involved two US-provided ATACMS missiles, could signify the loss of the last Russian cruise missile carrier in Crimea.

Crimea Satellite Images Show Aftermath of 'Massive' ATACMS Strike
Published May 17
Satellite images have been released which purportedly show the aftermath of a Ukrainian strike using U.S.-supplied missiles on a key Russian military air base in annexed Crimea.
The photos were shared by the Ukraine military-linked Operativno ZSU Telegram channel on Friday, and were captured by Maxar Technologies.
They show "enemy losses in aviation" at the Belbek airfield, including two MiG-31 fighter jets, an Su-27 aircraft, and a damaged MiG-29 fighter jet, the channel said.

Just an example of the tone of the news in Spain about that war with a general summary of the situation right now, so that anyone can see the difference in styles and tone with the usual Russian press, so that the Russians can appreciate how much we are brainwashed, and they are not.
The five fronts Ukraine is defending with troops and weapons pushed to the limit
Russia is pressing its advantage in troops, munitions and air dominance in several towns in the provinces of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv to expand the front line and achieve strategic victories this summer
Zelenskiy does not have a wide margin domestically either. Polls indicate that his popularity is waning and that a large majority of Ukrainians are against being called up to join the army. Last Saturday the new civilian mobilization law came into force, which aims to provide around 400,000 new recruits for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a measure that is unpopular in society but essential to renew regiments that have been decimated after more than two years of war. The new contingents could start fighting from the second half of the summer. The question is whether such a mobilization will be possible in the future without provoking a political crisis in the country.
Both sides currently have even numbers of combatants on the battlefield: about half a million troops to cover some 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles) of frontline, according to data from the Russian Center for Analysis of Technologies and Strategies, which warns that the potential of the Russian Armed Forces in 2024 will be absolutely determined by the Kremlin’s readiness to execute a new mass call-up.

I dunno the tone of "Russian press" because I (and majority of people) don't use mainstream media as source of news, it's very limited, info comes later etc. I dunno how do you know what is the content of Russian press btw.
Those who are the main target of "brainwashing" by media here are often the most peace seeking people of Soviet generations, mostly 60+, with some sentimental vegetarian feelings towards Ukrainians and "brotherly" delusions. So, mainstream propaganda is boring and has no strict target audience.
I see what Smaland pastes here from the vulgar Belorussian opposition sites like charter97 and one-two others and I rated his info.
People like Jehan sincerely trust that stories like non existant defence lines in Kharkov region and stolen billions is the Russian propaganda, reality out of pro Ukrainian Twitter does not exist for them.
So, don't be that fast to say that everyone is so objective (first of all towards himself).

What this does is establish and deepen those ideas even further, what you have done with this war is give meaning to the Ukrainian nationalist sense.
But well, another objective was also to move NATO away from the Russian borders and right now the borders with NATO have increased considerably.
But yes, I suppose some of what you say is adjusted to the real objective and is what I say motivated the attack, to control Ukraine, and bring it to the "Russian side" in one way or another.
But nothing to do with Jews, traditional morality, gays, woke ideology, Nazis, genocide of Russians or that the West wanted to attack Russia.
It is only a reaffirmation of Russia's capacity as an autonomous "global power" and that is finally leading it to end up being a vassal of the real contender with the "Western" for world hegemony, which is China.
But hey, maybe you'll get it. Who knows. Keep trying but the costs of such a thing only go up and up day by day.
