ive been digging through my family tree for a bit now, just wondering if anyone could say if these results are normal for someone with afaik a fully eastern german background? ive got a suspicion that i might have some background from west/northwest germany or even from outside germany.

Americans have a weird idea of the Irish. No one in Ireland ever uses those terms not my old relatives or any Irish person. It's only Americans parodying the Irish that do that. For example if you go to Ireland you won't find people saying "Top of da mornin to ya" either. Most Americans wouldn't even understand a lot of Irish expressions.

I think with G25 there is a lot more Irish samples than Scottish and English so there will be more spread in the Irish samples so i.e. more diversity so you are more likely to match the Irish samples. So basically they need more Scottish and English samples to offset this. I tend towards Orcadians on this more than Irish but because of overlap any close population can match each other.
The Irish Brigade's battle cry at Fontenoy, "Cuimhnigí ar Luimneach agus ar feall na Sasanaigh," translates to "Remember Limerick and the treachery of the English." After seeing the devastation caused by the Irish Brigade, the Duke of Cumberland reportedly remarked, "God curse the laws that made those men our enemies".

You know, Grace, you're absolutely right about the American view of the Irish being somewhat skewed. The Irish have a rich and complex culture that can't be reduced to a few catchy phrases. The American fascination with Irish culture is part of a broader trend towards what I call "cultural appropriation." And I think that this trend is symptomatic of a deeper societal problem, namely the breakdown of traditional values and norms. You see, in the past, American culture was rooted in a set of shared values and traditions that were passed down from generation to generation. Grace, you see, the decline of the 1980s family sitcom is just the tip of the iceberg. It's all part of a larger cultural shift towards what I call "postmodern nihilism." This is a mindset that values individualism and self-expression above all else, and it's been promoted by the forces of feminism, LGBTQ activism, and rap music. These forces have undermined traditional family structures and values, and they've created a cultural vacuum that has been filled by trash TV and other forms of low-brow entertainment.

My comment to Jerry is not personally to him but as he used those stage Irishmen phrases I used his comment to point out that this leprechaun Irish stuff is mostly fantasy and is mostly an American invention and just exaggerated caricature. The Irish even in the past didn't go around saying "Begorrah" Anyway Peterson I appreciate your very well thought out response.

Grace, it was said in jest. It's an old expression from 100 years ago. Take no offense, please.

When I saw that I was half Irish I said to me self Saints be praised. Lol again, a joke.

Yes I'm aware of overfitting and lack of samples. Couple that with my atypical ancestry and I'd have to cherry pick sources to get something closer to my traced ancestry.

Again, all jokes aside, I meant no offense.

I know you meant no offense. That is why I didn't direct my comment at you personally although I quoted you. I'm just saying it is stage Irish and not authentically something Irish have said. I don't really find it offensive.

    All fine.
