The closest full-blooded native individual I've confirmed was born in 1750; she married a Frenchman in Acadia, and they had children. However, there could be more recent contributors that I haven't discovered yet.

This update was pretty ambitious in terms of dividing results into more specific regions. A lot of people seem unhappy with the changes. Personally, I think my results got more accurate overall, but I've got small criticisms as well.

I'm curious what your closest 10 samples are using the modern official scaled set. DM me if you want to share? Or, post them here.

They just can't separate England completely from the continent. 23&Me can do it.

Ah dang sorry interesting to see what you got though!

Yeah tbh some of the subregion assignments just felt really random, and it seems they still have a tendency to inflate a certain component a lot. I guess I'm not surprised since they tried so hard to break it down, but it was a bit overhyped to me. Especially without new community assignments for me. They got a few subregions right, but the overall %'s were fairly less accurate than before. Was the 23andme update good for you in your own opinion? I'm curious because my opinion on it is very polarized and complicated, I thought it was meh and had odd issues, didn't gain any new genetic groups or location regions either. For me it was a disappointing year for updates.

That's good! The 23andme update was good for my dad and ok for my grandma and sister, but not too good for me and my mom. Massive inconsistencies between family members though and in parental inheritance, very bummed since the phasing used to work very well pre-update and our results aligned much better before now the parental inheritance and ancestry timeline are almost just a fantasy and shockingly incorrect for a 23andme feature. I've found bugs in the ancestry features as well, they need to fix them ASAP. The results do improve for me quite a bit when I change the confidence from "most likely" to 50% confidence though. I hate the "most likely" confidence trash they use now, it seems too experimental IMO. New interface is bad too imo.

Yeah I think Ancestry went way overboard with trying to distinguish regions! And I feel like they were not honest about certain aspects of the update. I wish they also worked on improving their ancestry features too honestly. Also I do not like how they grouped some of the European regions. It seems their samples are not too good either.

I'm beginning to worry about the future of DNA tests a bit.
