Because of numerous calculator tests here at TA, I stopped using Amerindian in my personal calculators. My coordinates "Fabricius_MyHeritage-to-g25(simulated)" are not my favorite, I prefer to use my K13 to G25, which is less sensitive and less likely to put me in the Balkans. But I chose here precisely because it is the one with the shortest distances, in order to see if I can achieve very low distances only with Iberians.

I've made countless calculators for myself, testing different populations. I think this thread is a good opportunity to show some reasoning and how AI is still very limited, being quick to process given information but limited to think beyond.
AI lacks intuition.

Grok said that the "Canarian" sample is sufficient for my model and that I don't need to add any other population. To assess this, we first need to look at what is considered "good distance" for G25 results on Vahaduo.

I asked this to Google Gemini:

General Rules of Thumb
• Valid Model: A genetic distance of 2 or less is often considered valid in specific scaled contexts (though G25 sometimes uses unscaled with lower numbers). Generally, lower is better.
• "Noises" (Overfitting): If you use too many sources, the distance can be artificially low. A good, consistent model should have a reasonable distance (e.g., ~0.03) without listing highly distant, non-related groups.
• Scale Matters: Scaled coordinates generally produce lower, more consistent numbers compared to raw/unscaled coordinates.*

Then I asked for the minimal distance:

0.01 (or 1.0% in some formats) is generally considered unnecessary and likely to introduce noise or "overfitting." While it might feel more precise, a fit that is too low often means the algorithm is simply finding a mathematical fluke rather than a real ancestral signal.*
Here is how to interpret distances at and below that range:
• The Overfitting Limit (0.01 to 0.005): Once you reach a distance of 0.01, the model is already exceptionally accurate. Attempting to drop further—for example, to 0.005 or lower—usually requires adding too many source populations. When you have more than 4–7 populations in a single model, you risk "overfitting," where the tool forces tiny percentages of unrelated groups just to lower the mathematical distance.
• The Role of Noise: G25 coordinates represent patterns in your DNA across 25 dimensions. The later dimensions capture very small variations. If you chase a near-zero distance, you are essentially trying to model the "noise" or random mutations in these later dimensions, which do not represent your actual ancestry.
• Best Practice: Instead of aiming for the lowest possible number, focus on whether the results make sense for your known heritage. If you get a distance of 0.015 with 3 populations that match your family history, that is a much better result than a 0.008 that requires 15 random populations.*
To maintain accuracy, it is recommended to keep your source panel small and only add samples that have a historical or geographical basis for your ancestry.*

In short, we have that from 1% to 2% we have the optimum, the ideal distance, which connects us to the populations considered related without the risk of "noise".
Below 1% is really close (we are 0.000000000) but it is suspect, if there are no reasons to include some populations (historical reasons, family accounts, documents, geographical proximity et caetera).

Above 2% up to 3.5% is a reasonable distance to have a broad, general idea. But it cannot be said that "nothing is missing".

Above 3.5% is another population. I have noticed that the most homogeneous TA members are distant from ~2% and even ~1% from individual populations.

The AI said that my ancestry could extend across the Mediterranean, not north. And he mentioned Jews. I tried it a second time with the same scaled coordinates again, and these results are definitely closer to my actual G25 and Illus but definitely not perfect of course.

For context the first time I ran it through it said my top populations would be English, North Dutch, and Scottish with a summary stating no Eastern European affinity at all and minimal Germanic or French possible. This is what I got the 2nd time using the same coordinates.

This time:

French (specifically Northeast or Northwest France)
Belgian
Dutch (South)
German (West/Southwest)

Summary this time: Based on these specific values, your profile shows a strong Northwest European affinity, specifically clustering near modern French, Belgian, or Southern German populations.

Not sure why the results changed a fair bit this time??? Hmm.

Yes, this "Amerindian" of yours can only be something very old, related to the Ancient North Eurasian.

Because of numerous calculator tests here at TA, I stopped using Amerindian in my personal calculators. Although as a Brazilian it is reasonable to expect some percentage of Amerindians, I found it strange, for some time now, that my distance to the Indians of North America is less than that of the South.

My conclusion is that the AIs were biased by my location.

My coordinates "Fabricius_MyHeritage-to-g25(simulated)" are not my favorite, I prefer to use my K13 to G25, which is less sensitive and less likely to put me in the Balkans. But I chose here precisely because it is the one with the shortest distances, in order to see if I can achieve very low distances only with Iberians.

I've made countless calculators for myself, testing different populations. I think this thread is a good opportunity to show some reasoning and how AI is still very limited, being quick to process given information but limited to think beyond.
AI lacks intuition.

Grok said that the "Canarian" sample is sufficient for my model and that I don't need to add any other population. To assess this, we first need to look at what is considered "good distance" for G25 results on Vahaduo.

I asked this to Google Gemini:

In short, we have that from 1% to 2% we have the optimum, the ideal distance, which connects us to the populations considered related without the risk of "noise".
Below 1% is really close (we are 0.000000000) but it is suspect, if there are no reasons to include some populations (historical reasons, family accounts, documents, geographical proximity et caetera).

Above 2% up to 3.5% is a reasonable distance to have a broad, general idea. But it cannot be said that "nothing is missing".

Above 3.5% is another population. I have noticed that the most homogeneous TA members are distant from ~2% and even ~1% from individual populations.

The Jewish hypothesis.
The AI said that my ancestry could extend across the Mediterranean, not north. And he mentioned Jews. Sephardic Jews are an important component in the Iberian Peninsula, especially in Brazil, especially in Minas Gerais, due to the "cristãos novos" (new Christians) forced to convert to Christianity, but this is very old and the DNA must already be diluted.
