    AI Overview

According to a 2012 New York Post article, researchers developed a "genetic GPS" tool that analyzes DNA to determine a person's geographic ancestry, sometimes within 60 miles. This technology, officially known as spatial ancestry analysis, uses DNA markers to pinpoint ancestral origins, with increasing accuracy in Europe and globally as more data is collected.

Key Aspects of the "Genetic GPS" (as reported in 2012):
Purpose: Identifies where in the world a person's ancestors originated using DNA.
Technology: Uses "spatial ancestry analysis" based on subtle genetic mutations.
Accuracy: Could pinpoint origin within 60 miles, particularly for those with European ancestry at the time of the report.
Purpose: Helps people learn their fundamental genetic history and aids in understanding how genes influence diseases and drug responses.

^You see for real science you have to geek out at the linux command line when it comes to genetics :

You have an Irish surname, not Norman. 1/2 Irish, 1/4 English/British, 1/4 Alsatian = majority Insular Celtic.
    Spoiler!

I have a hiberno-norrman surname that can also be found in Scotland and England. It also, in its original form, originated from Kent England. Americans never really know what they are until one does the science :

^as you can see Americans wrongly thought they were of certain ancestries but the science told them they were wrong. You can't argue with the science.
