It doesn't really work that straightforwardly for non-Western Europe. Poles end up in Sweden, Hungarians in Poland, Lithuanians in Finland, Ukrainians in Latvia, etc. Well, just look at the original plot and superimpose it over the map of Europe. For instance, RU31 below should be closer to Chuvashia, but instead he's to the Northwest of Moscow. Pretty much all Russians are either Finnish or very NW Russian.
(I'm marked in red, RU44)
I should note that I ended up on a rather romantic lonesome island. The closest available images are of an Ingrian flag and a grave with the following inscription:
Passer-by, stop!
Think.
Bow to the memory of the ancestors!
Here stood the mill that belonged to Julle Panteley.
He was a shipboy when he was 13. Then a sailor. Then a sea captain of Russian, French, English sailing ships.
He was a witch-doctor, a healer, and a seer.
Executed in 1943 by a German firing squad for refusing to relocate to Finland. He was 91 year old.
From his descendants, 2005There used to be more, but one already more or less understands one's genetic make-up after a few runs.Originally Posted by ~Elizabeth~
The East Asian and all that is just noise. Northeast African, specifically, seems to increase if your Middle Eastern score is low, since the original Mid East probably includes a slight component identified otherwise as NE African. Hence the noise for Finns, North Russians and other Europeans with low Mid East; whereas the more Mediterranean populations like the Irish or the Italians have 0.
You should see other runs to verify such small admixtures. If they show up consistently, they may be worth attention.

I don't know where my approx 1% each of East Asian, South Asian, and Africa is coming from.[/QUOTE]
That is all noise most likely or just some very old remnants so I would not take them seriously, and Polako told me this as well for my minor South Asian and West-African.

A few Finns get 1% West African. Also the Gotland Hunter Gatherers had some SSA admixture according Dodecad, so I think it's something ancient.

The Eurogenes creator mentioned this on another forum (under a nickname)
BTW, to try and reduce the noise, I cut back the HapMap3 African samples in my dataset, using PLINK PI-HAT. The new K8 results are avaibale at the same blog link.
Analyzing Northeast African samples from Pagani et al. 2012
I'll move up to K9 with this dataset this weekend.
So here are my results in the new version, basically the same as the first one (within 1%) .
Pagani K8 redone June 27 2012
North Eurasian 0.000651
West African 0.011003
East Asian 0.009302
South Asian 0.013059
Northeast African 0.003557
European 0.612094
West Asian 0.152378
Middle Eastern 0.197956
Pagani K8, redo, highest to lowest:
European 61.20%
Middle Eastern 19.79%
West Asian 15.23%
South Asian 01.30%
West African 01.10%
East Asian 00.93%
Northeast African 00.35%
North Eurasian 00.06%
Not much of a difference for me compared to the first run from the other day:

It seems you are consistently scoring in the 1% range for West-African Elizabeth, and was this the case with your McDonald's tests at all?

That must have been quite disheartening for those noble Nordic peoples to hear.![]()
I think that its probably ancient, and anything under 1% is generally supposed to be treated as noise.
I have also heard of some Finns scoring higher ranges of Northeastern African and even some Pygmy in certain cases.

Interesting, and do you know of any Amerindian or SSA ancestry in your background at all?
The .5% range on McDonald's depending on how strong that segment has remained over a certain range of time could mean there is some ancestry of that from anytime in the early 1600s to early 1700s.
It could just be archaic admixture as well, and did he say that both of them were real whatsoever?

When did he tell you that? For this Pagani run? He posted in the other forum (a couple weeks ago?) that he doesn't want to be emailed/pmed and he wants anyone with questions to ask them in the thread on that forum, and he might answer there.
For my African, about a month or two ago via pm in the other forum, he said he I probably had an African-American ancestor.
I asked what he thought of my South Asian and Oceanian (shows up in tiny amounts in the DNA Tribes SNP analysis and Dienekes/McDonald) but he didn't comment.
So it's noise for you and real for me. I have no known ancestry from there.

I PMed him this, and he is usually very quick to answer my replied in a long and detailed manner on PM.
He said for me to send him PMs when I needed a question answered, because he is there to help me out with interpreting the data and information.
I suppose he makes an exception for me, and I am on good terms with him generally speaking, so he told me anything under 1% generally is noise range.
