So? The thumbs down shouldn't be a popularity contest or a matter of pride (i have x amount of likes), it should be used when one agrees or finds a certain post helpful, and makes it known to the writer. Nothing more, nothing less.

People need thicker skin. A thumbs down is less harsh than a negrep. As long as people don't spam thumbs down, I don't see the issue.

One thumbs down over a post you strongly disagree with means the system is working.

I wish people would write an explanation for a thumb down. How can someone improve their posting without feedback. At least with neg reps there's a section where you can leave a comment.
