My uncle moved to Israel when he was in his early 30s.

No one else has ever entertained the notion seriously, I think.

My uncle is also fairly left-wing and extremely secular, much more so than anyone else in the family.

A century ago, my great-great grandmother was a prominent early Zionist who funded the construction of an Israeli fishing village, where she is now buried. An unrelated great-great-grandfather hosted Herzl when he came to London, but Herzl himself said of him that 'he was a better judge of a cigar than a Zionist.'
