Are Hipsters Still A Thing?

Since when the hipster trend began in the early 2000's Isn't it a fairly recent trend (last decade or so)? At least in Portugal it is.

No, certainly not. Hipsters have actually been around since the 1940's (or that's when the term was first coined) But they come in waves/cycles. In the early 2000's there was a book written about them. The new crop of hipsters:skinny jeans, vinyl collecting, beard, black horn rimmed glasses are the latest incarnation that seemed to peak several years ago .

It's just a subculture. First we had goths in the 90s, then scene/emo in the 00s, then hipsters started popping up around 2009ish. Hipsters were edgy back then and there was no SJW culture. It was very white and no guilt associated with it.

It was a semi-conscious attempt to reject modern commercialism by looking into the past for something more "authentic", but it ended up being just as commercial as it tried to avoid being. There was no intellectual basis for it, which is partially why it failed; beards were old-fashioned, so people grew beards. Cloth messenger bags were old-fashioned, so they carried those. Same with plaid shirts, vinyl records, etc.

Most emos in America who transformed into the Hipster/SJW culture are still left with stupid tattoos, piercings and a cringe worthy past while stuck working at dirty shops for minimum wage.

I remember the Swingers Era hipsters of the late 90s which were totally different from the 2004-onward hipsters. That was an odd transition in the early 2000s

I suppose Hipsters became mainstream in 2009ish, but they were around long before then.

Hipsters are now environmentalists, probably vegan, alternative lifestyle etc.

It has gotten pretty extreme.

This, in Argentina they evolved into toxic third wave feminist, all the women are dressing like lesbians or cat ladies, it's vomitive.
