During the period of the First Crusade, logistics and shipping simply wasn't that advanced yet. The Third and Fourth used naval routes.

"The city was one of the Arab Caliphate's first conquests in 638 CE"
"Fatimid control of Jerusalem ended when it was captured by Crusaders in July 1099. The capture was accompanied by a massacre of almost all of the Muslim and Jewish inhabitants. "
500 years later "hOLy LaNd MuSt bE cHrIsTiaN!1" Very holy. +10 holiness for massacring the Muslim and Jewish population. Jesus approves.

Pretty much. Jews were a minority during the Byzantine era of Palestine due on the fact that most of them converted to Christianity which you can see in today's Palestinian Christians being genetically very Israelite with little to no admixture from outside of the Levant in them in contrast to Palestinian Muslims who are over 50% Israelite(we cluster in between ancient Egyptians and northern Levantines) like western Jewish peoples(Ashkenazim and Sephardi Jews; they're half MENA half Europeans genetically).

The Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eight Crusades also used naval routes.

That's how many of the migrated to the Levant in the first place which is why you can find only Southern European admixture in today's Levantines. In fact, the word, Levantines, was used primarily for the Southern European immigrants to the Levant from Italy and Greece.
