My first modern population match is always Serbian no matter of ancient matches and I'm south Slavic.
It is not my first match but I get Serbian. Montenegrin too. Macedonian too. Italian and Greek too and Roma. https://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?285409-Mixed-mode-oracle-algorithm-from-Gedmatch-applied-to-G25-Datasheet&p=5953480&viewfull=1#post5953480

That's hilarious how you got your giagia to do a dna test
Lmao she was very excited to do the test but doesn't take the results seriously, I told her that the updated results says she's 100% Greek even though it's Greek and Balkan. She doesn't understand gedmatch.
But yeah thanks for showing! I do find it interesting that Greek Islanders I guess do in fact have different ancient origins than the Greeks on the mainland. Other than dosas (who is half Pontic Greek), I'm the only Greek who has no Illyrian and/or Scythian ancestry and instead have Roman/Greek/Hitite/Minoan. Hmmm
STOP SPREADING LIES! SIKELIOT SOCK!
And thanks for showing me your map, because my buddy is a quarter Chinese and it was showing his ancestry as having no Viking even though his dad is Danish which I found strange. But we can maybe blame the weird mix for the different results.
Yep, my gedmatch results are usually quite off as well, only a few calculators are accurate.

Vadim Verenich (author of MDLP calcs) opinion on mytruancestry

So they repeat the same mistake(s) that was already done by the forerunners.
From the results posted above, we can infer that the similarity metrics rely on IBS scores between pseudo-haploid genomes of ancient samples and fully diploid genomes of modern reference groups, which is rather nonsensical.
For the words of wisdom were spelled out:
1) Thou shalt not compare pseudo-haploids against diploids - render unto haploids the things that are haploids, and unto diploids the things that are diploids"
2) Thou shalt not take genomewide ancestry and IBS metrics for estimating ancestry in vain.

It is not even funny...
This is just biggest bullshit lately on Genetic Internet...
Do you know your one-to-many list on Gematch? What is your highest match (besides close family like parents) for me about 30 cM. And Gedmatch says common ancestor was about 4.5 generation ago.
https://i.postimg.cc/0yC2j0PF/Bez-nazwy-9.png
So what the hell means if you have common 80 cM with sample from Bronze Age Jutland? How many generation ago it was? Go figure:) It is impossible and completely biased result.

Posting it, is like posting random numbers taken from the ass. Nobody can defend those cM values in two post above. Unless you believe you match 3500 years old sample on the same level as 3rd cousin...

This was a pretty good action film. Liked the character of Kunitza, but the old chieftan was bad-ass too. Also liked how the knyaz (the ruler) referred to the scythians as wolves. In Russian the title of the film is Скиф (The Schythian) not the crappy Last Warrior English translation.

Go figure:) It is impossible and completely biased result.
https://screenshotscdn.firefoxusercontent.com/images/8fe4d8fb-7b3d-4ec7-ab3c-6f304623d26a.png
Posting it, is like posting random numbers taken from the ass. Nobody can defend those cM values in two post above. Unless you believe you match 3500 years old sample on the same level as 3rd cousin...
You are wasting your time, mate. They are not listening to you, they are happy to pay hundreds of euros to some scammer to tell them they are the direct descendant of Conan the barbarian, or something.

It's still neat to see one compared to some ancient samples, even if this is a novelty/not a perfect science.
Speaking of which, just realised I have a "match", in Asia: The Androvono sample around Tuva, Russia (near the crossroads with Mongolia and Kazakhstan), dated 1500BC. Neato.

]
I'm even more sceptical because first some of their presumable "bots" or "sockpuppets" on foras (here also, few accounrs created on March or April)) and FB groups defended those high cM values for matches, even if they were ridicuolusly stupid like 80cM with Jutland Bronze Age for Spaniard.
And when many people started to compare their matches with the same samples which are uploaded on Gedmatch, they quietly lowered cM values. If someone is their paid customer may ask them why they changed their algorhitm. and if they admit they were utterly wrong before:) ?
When I find time I will massively upload all ancient samples they were using to Gedmatch and everyone could make one-to-one for free, and check real cM values with normal treshold of course... List of kits will be published here.

But about samples from the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, 5 thousand years BC, with which MyTrueAststry.com also compares - "Scientists noted that the ancient ancestors of the Scandinavians have nothing in common with modern inhabitants of the peninsula. It turned out that the Vikings were closer in their DNA structure to the ancient inhabitants of northern Russia and the Baltic states than to their neighbors from the southern part of Scandinavia. Experts believe that their genomes were similar to the genetic material of hunter-gatherers. About why many Russian Vikings of the 12th century are highlighted, this does not mean that the ancestors were Vikings, the Vikings had Slavic ancestors, here’s an article about those samples from Sigtuna- "The combination of genetic and isotopic data showed that out of 38 people in the vicinity of Sigtuna grew less than half. The rest turned out to be migrants - “regional” (southern Scandinavia, modern Norway and Denmark) and visitors from more distant places (modern British islands, Ukraine, Lithuania, northern Germany and other regions of central Europe, as well as Novgorod city) Among the "newcomers" were men 44%, women -. 70%. " There is also a version that it was the Slavs who destroyed Sigtuna in 1187. In Sigtuna in the XII century. there was a Slavic trade court with Slavs who were constantly there.

Not every archaeological match has any link to you personally, it means that their ancestry is similiar. The deep dive comparison, meanwhile, is a direct comparison of your DNA 1-to-1. This is a much more definitive way to show direct common ancestry with a sample although similiar ancestry is also useful.
Hope this clarifies!

I got the same as you but what they call Celts are some of the Roman Britons and others so it just depends on what they label the samples as. I don't think people are taking this too seriously. It mostly appears to be based on population distances.

The answer is-
"1. We suggest considering the sample quality in addition to the age as both play a role in the final cM figure. e.g. a high quality sample buried in snow and ice is typically better despite being older.
2. Not every archaeological match has any link to you personally, it means that their ancestry is similiar. The deep dive comparison, meanwhile, is a direct comparison of your DNA 1-to-1. This is a much more definitive way to show direct common ancestry with a sample although similiar ancestry is also useful.

That is pretty interesting, especially the matched segments as gedmatch gave nobody such things. I wonder what I would get but I can't bother paying for a kit. my other free kit expired.
Roman doesn't seem to be actual Roman ancestry. I agree.

lol, I guess i'm not the only one with an iberian background to get illyrian as a result. I feel like a gallo-roman is closer genetically to a modern day iberian than illyrian but oh well..

Not only NOT native in the real Macedonia, not even native in the wannabe one.

It was more of a joke that i wanted a hi from you. But it's rude.
To answer the question, no one is 100% native to a region. Being native could also mean you are 60, 50, 40% from a region. Unless you have another standard for nativness?
Here is a friend of mine's results. He is also Macedonian. We are native to Macedonia at varying degrees.

Τhere is nothing rude on that. We are not friends, I'm just simply answering to a thread. If you were in Greece, sitting on a table with fellow Apricians and I ignored you, then it would be rude.
I didn't say anything about 100% native. But it seems that there is not even a small amount here.
Btw, the photo is not visible.

Well it's interesting to see that Western Balkans is equally distant between Gauls, Slavs and Greeks (like in middle)
Gauls, Scythian Slav, Greeks mix is exactly what history teaches us about Western Balkans.

These are my latest deep ancestry matches. Two Rathlins, the Halstatt Celt, and then Vikings. The Rathlins are very old at about 4,000 years with the Hallstatt sample the next oldest and then the Pre-Viking sample with the Viking ones being the latest. It will be interesting when they build up more samples from different periods.

Ancient DNA study finds Phoenician from Carthage had European ancestry
https://3c1703fe8d.site.internapcdn.net/newman/csz/news/800/2016/ancientdnast.jpg
A research team co-led by a scientist at New Zealand's University of Otago has sequenced the first complete mitochondrial genome of a 2500-year-old Phoenician dubbed the "Young Man of Byrsa" or "Ariche".
This is the first ancient DNA to be obtained from Phoenician remains and the team's analysis shows that the man belonged to a rare European haplogroup—a genetic group with a common ancestor—that likely links his maternal ancestry to locations somewhere on the North Mediterranean coast, most probably on the Iberian Peninsula.
The findings are newly published in the prestigious international journal PLOS ONE.
Study co-leader Professor Lisa Matisoo-Smith of the Department of Anatomy says the findings provide the earliest evidence of the European mitochondrial haplogroup U5b2cl in North Africa and date its arrival to at least the late sixth century BC.
"U5b2cl is considered to be one of the most ancient haplogroups in Europe and is associated with hunter-gatherer populations there. It is remarkably rare in modern populations today, found in Europe at levels of less than one per cent. Interestingly, our analysis showed that Ariche's mitochondrial genetic make-up most closely matches that of the sequence of a particular modern day individual from Portugal," Professor Matisoo-Smith says.

While the Phoenicians are thought to have originated from the area that is now Lebanon, their influence expanded across the Mediterranean and west to the Iberian Peninsula where they established settlements and trading posts. The city of Carthage in Tunisia, North Africa, was established as a Phoenician port by colonists from Lebanon and became the centre for later Phoenician (Punic) trade.
The researchers analysed the mitochondrial DNA of 47 modern Lebanese people and found none were of the U5b2cl lineage.
Previous research has found that U5b2cl was present in two ancient hunter-gatherers recovered from an archaeological site in north-western Spain, she says.
"While a wave of farming peoples from the Near East replaced these hunter-gatherers, some of their lineages may have persisted longer in the far south of the Iberian peninsula and on off-shore islands and were then transported to the melting pot of Carthage in North Africa via Phoenician and Punic trade networks."
Professor Matisoo-Smith says Phoenician culture and trade had a significant impact on Western civilisation. For example, they introduced the first alphabetic writing system.
"However, we still know little about the Phoenicians themselves, except for the likely biased accounts by their Roman and Greek rivals—hopefully our findings and other continuing research will cast further light on the origins and impact of Phoenician peoples and their culture," she says.

No, red dots are those that don't fit into their ancient categories.

The Carthaginian Ibiza match supposedly has 100 quality , but it's an odd one
for me to get and with such big a largest segment.
I'm not as knowledgeable about such things as many of you are , but I wonder about the validity of these
matches.

Very interesting! Comparison DNA appeared with specimens from the Mediterranean — DNA coinciding with the Punic from the Balearic Islands — originate from the Middle East-Phoenician:p
If this is a Phoenician trace, then it completely coincides with the DNA.LAND

“Cypriot-Besides the genetic proximity to the Greeks (especially the Cretan) and the Turks, the examination showed that both nations share common haplotypes with the Calabrian Italians and Lebanese. The proximity to the Italians from Calabria may be the result of the genetic contribution of the Archean Greeks who had previously settled Calabria and Cyprus. Genetic communion with the Lebanese - the result of the Phoenician migrations "

Just in case anyone is interested my closest match is the Celtic/Viking Icelander and if you look at the sample they are roughly 40% Gaelic/60% Scandinavian which I guess makes sense that I would be close to them so I think this site is reliable. I haven't looked into the other samples too closely but will look later.
