The Crimean Tatar culture is extremely mixed and made up of different sources. From Steppe Turkics to Islamicized Greeks, Armenians and even Europeans like Italians and Goths. Also considering the immense number of Russian (incl. modern Ukraine) slaves captured by nomads and brought over there for sale, I would not be surprised if they have at least some East Slavic blood too.

I just know about some turkified Greeks, never heard of Tatars with Armenian roots. I think i is quite understandable that they have some slavic admix, i would wonder which people didn’t mixed with their neighbors during centuries of cohabitation. What i can say for Turkey Crimean Tatars, and mist of them live there now, are the most east eurasian looking people there. And(with Circissians) the best looking people imo(but thats off tooic now ;)

Um, I'm not sure. He himself would score something like TM Iron Age (I'll try finding the Dodecad of that sample), 700 BC. His children would probably plot somewhere in Ukraine. Lithuanians have very little CHG and Anatolian, so their being 1/4 Kurdish would pull them southwards.

I actually have Gedmatch of a family. Father is half Lebanese or Syrian (Muslim) and half Russian from St. Petersburg while mother is Lithuanian but they don't really belong here and Lebanese are sufficiently different from Kurds.

Also true for Turks from places Bayburt, Erzurum, Sebinkarahisar, Erzincan.
Tunceli's southern provinces (Malazgird, Cemisgezek, Merkez,Pertek) were armenian majority or 50/50 population, but all the villages were mixed kurdish(zaza mostly) alevi+armenian. there are also sunni turks in those areas since 300. years. most of the region was ruled by local tribes till the republic. The armenians assimilated into the kurds in these regions.
but that sample has too much gedrosia for such a mix. seems an odd admixture.

I do try hard to fish out any North Caucasians and Central Asians that are available, that's my main focus regarding this thread.
I'd say there is no shortage of Iranians on Gedmatch, Lebanese people are pretty numerous as well. Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Georgians exist in decent numbers, especially the first. For Iraq we have that huge-ass Iraqi Project account but Syria and Jordan are definitely underrepresented.

Here's are some Iranians I found matching with Assyrians. Where are they from?

Decent N European so either NorthEast or Northwest for both.

Top one has high South Asian, Gedrosia and lower SW Asian. Could be a Persian from Mashhad or Khorasan in general or a Khorasani Turk, or a mix of both.
Bottom has higher SW Asian and less Gedrosia/South Asian, most likely from NW, most likely an Azeri but could be Kurdish possibly.

First one looks like Khorasan but could be mixed

Second one has a genealogy tree online. And he has ancestry from Kerman and Khorasan. However one grandmother is hidden, so i don't know about the missing 25%. Surname leads to Azerbaijan origin but you can't base the ethnicity on it. Just regional.

Well, the other results in that region resemble the Cappadocian Greek-Lebanese/Coastal Arabs. An ancient sample from Malatya found in a cave resembles the Christian Arabs. Seems like Kura_Araxes/Armenian/Pontic shift happened in the region. It was ruled by Assyrians that regin?
This sample resembles South Central Asian samples from the Bactria culture. I don't know much about Mitanni. Seems like the Levant and Central Asia was connected! We found Cappadocian Greek like results in northern India also!

Well we should be careful with those averages. We don’t know whether those are mixed or not, like you said there are a lot of Non-Turks. Although K.Maras has in my knowledge around 10% Kurdish population which is not colossal. Antep is a city with huge Arab minority.

Most of the arab minority are syrian refugees, without there are mixed informations. The arab population in that region without syrians can't be more than 3-4% AT MOST. The city center without thema and recent kurdish migrants should be atleast 80% turkish.

On the other hand, many are kurdified. What i can say that 1965 over 25% of Hatay was still speaking Arabic, i doubt that this numbers are lower today.

Then the one from Urfa - I haven't seen a genetic result but some of them can have Bedouin/Saudi Arabian phenotypes.. If they score like southwest asian/red sea 25%+ I wouldn't be suprised.
No, they are not assimilated, they make majority in three districts (Harran plain) which is like 95%+ arab and are the highest population wise. Kurds from Maras are situated mainly in Pazarcik, Elbistan and Afsin where they traditionally formed a majority. The actual city of Maras is Turkish.

Thanks for the information, didn't know any of that. Not too long ago I didn't even know Arabs were a thing in Turkey other than a tiny and disappearing minority. But anyway they have plenty of countries where they form a majority, so it's not like they're endangered or something as a race.

Georgia isn't North Caucasian though. But yeah, I also thought he was just an Anatolian Turk, nothing else. He never struck me as particularly Georgian-looking. I find it a bit ironic his not very distant ancestors were Christians.

Kurds from Maras are situated mainly in Pazarcik, Elbistan and Afsin where they traditionally formed a majority. The actual city of Maras is Turkish.
Pazarcik would be majority kurdish if they wouldn't migrate out, but it's not true for Elbistan. Georgians are one of the first nations to accept Christianity in 4th century. They accepted it long before many European nations. Today Rize, Artvin has muslim Georgians and some Adjarians are muslim Georgians too.

Yes true, Elbistan town centre probably has a Sunni Turk majority right now. You have to remember 2 factors when it comes to Maras though
- a huge portion of its Kurds have migrated to Europe (the biggest portion of Kurds in the UK are from Maras province for example)
- influx of ethnic Turks and Syrian Arabs into the region

I doubt that these are Alevis or Tahtaci. Most probably a family from Western/Sw Anatolian Turks, they have visible SSA, their ancestors were probably big landowners. Also i don’t believe they are Yörüks, at least not in the last 200/250 years, or some Yörüks intermarried with them. In the past they married with townsfolk to give up their hard life style.

There once was a Yörük result from Southern Turkey region with significant SSA. As far as I know they are not Nomadic anymore so everything can be possible.

As I said I don't know where they are from, but I assume Southern Turkey.

That is very weird, at least his Turkic admixture should give him 5% North European. Even his Atl.Med is low. One Terekkeme, which was highly Turkic had low North European too.

I once thought that could be Mongolian influence maybe, but idk whether they settled in Iran or had any influence to ethnogenesis of Azerbaijanis. Just Chobanids have still descendants as far i know. At least the Terekkeme clustered with Mongolians.

North Euro in Georgia/Armenia and Northeast Turkey can be low. If they had ancestry from there it could have been a weird re-combination of genes. I would not overthink these kind of results too much.

Giresun also has kind of low NorthEuro sometimes despite being heavily turkic.

I noticed Azerbaijanis from Northwest tend to have higher Atlantic_Med than North_Euro.

I also had some theories about this, especially because Azeri's were almost exactly modelled as fully Talysh but with additional Han+Siberian, but to be honest, it simply can't make sense in terms of Haplogroups.
If we consider the Turks as 40% Eurasian, even the rest would not be pure white, so the difference would only be 1-2% European between them

Nope, that stems from Turkish state propaganda. Mehrdad Izady states the names of some Kurdified Turkish tribes, and the Qoçgiri are not amongst them.

Nope, that stems from Turkish state propaganda. Mehrdad Izady states the names of some Kurdified Turkish tribes, and the Qoçgiri are not amongst them.

Kocgiris are very kurdish autosomally, they don't seem to have any non-kurdish influence in their genetics. And the region is still kurdish speaking.

It depends on individual cases. But for example most of Kurdish villages in the home city of my parents are turkified, but everyone knows who is a kurd or who not.

I don’t want to ignite a discussion so i wont respond to this question anymore. Tribes in Turkey are well researched, regardless of your ethnicity. Claiming here that scientifical research is just propaganda of a state is bullshit and sometimes i cannot respond to this kind of bullshit anymore, honestly discussions aren’t enriching anymore with those kind of backwardness. Not everyone must have the same opinion or thoughts, i know but at some point this cool threads/discussions lose the charm. Turkey is interested in to spot the distribution of all ethnicities and their origin since last years. Reason for that is for example some stupid maps like some members have in their signatures. That is often criticized as partitioning or whatever. Here i must to laud Turkush historians for their great work about that and i say that as someone who often criticizes Turks in this science. I know many are just trolling, i am here as someone who is interested in history and genetics. But that shit becomes boring...

Adana has some Lak Kurds. Turkish user Ashina from anthroscape claimed partly Adanali Lak ancestry.

But there is no village who is Lak and speaks the language - maybe some settled there but it doesn't make the region "Lak Kurds". The region was armenian-turkish mixed, especially areas like Kozan. Also Dortyol is shown as "Canpolat" again no village with such tribe exists in the region. It's made up for justifieing such maps. Notice how there is always dot in Hatay/Dortyol shown as kurdish majority (which is not true at all)

I also read once that all Afshars and tribes listed as "Turkmen" in Anatolia were in fact Kurdish.

So I guess the ignorance goes both ways

"Al" is a definte article and means "the". Many Turks, Kurds and Assyrians in Iraq have "al" as part of their family name.
