These are 4 results of Kurds from my linguistically and religiously diverse but (seemingly) autosomally homogeneous home town of Sarpole Zahab, Kermanshah province, Iran. Or Sarpeli Zahaw as it's locally known. It's where the ancient town of Hulwan used to be.
Historically we have strong ties to Kalar & Diyala/Sirwan river on the other side of the Iran-Iraq border, besides the other towns in the Kermanshah province of course.

Very similar results despite the linguistic and religious diversity, but this is not entirely surprising.
The mass conversion to Shi'ism in Kermanshah occurred very late compared to other provinces. Qajar, as opposed to the Savafid period. Also, intermarriages between the different religious groups are common compared to elsewhere in Middle East
It's pretty ordinary West Iranian results, but one thing that stands out for me is the relatively high Atlantic_Med score.
It's higher than among most Kurds who live much further west and even higher than among some Assyrians.
I associate high Atlantic_Med score among Middle Easterners with Levantine admixture, but I don't notice any Levant-shift in this case. The oracles on the GEDMatch calculators prefer Iranian/Kurdish + a tiny bit of Sardinian, Greek or some other Mediterranean group.
That seemed ridiculous at first considering the geographical distance but not as implausible after I took a look at the Wiki page of Hulwan:
Hulwan (Persian: حلوان) was an ancient town on the Zagros Mountains in western Iran, located on the entrance of the Paytak Pass, nowadays identified with the town of Sarpol-e Zahab.
History
Later Arab tradition, as recorded by al-Tabari, considered the town a Sasanian foundation dating to Kavadh I (reigned 488–496, 498–531), but it is far more ancient: it was known since Assyrian times as Khalmanu, when it lay on the border between Babylonia and Media.[1] To the Seleucids, it was known as Chala (Greek: Χάλα) and was the capital of the district of Chalonitis (Χαλωνῖτις).[1][2][3] According to Diodorus Siculus, the name derives from the settlement of Greek captives from Boeotia by Xerxes, who founded the town of Celonae or Kelonai (Κέλωναι).[3]
Under the Sasanian Empire, the district of Hulwan was called [Khusraw] Shad Peroz ("the joy of Khusraw the victorious"), and the city itself probably Peroz Kavad ("victorious Kavad"). After the Muslim conquest of Persia, the words were Arabicized and became known as: [Khusraw] Shadh Firuz and Firuz Qubadh. Although like the rest of Media it belonged to the quarter (kust) of the North, under Khosrau II (r. 590–628) it was included in the quarter of the West, along with Mesopotamia, as the Sasanian rulers began to use the Zagros Mountains as a summer retreat away from the capital of Ctesiphon on the Mesopotamian plain.[4]
After the Battle of Qadisiyya in 636, the last Sasanian ruler, Yazdegerd III (r. 632–651), took refuge in Hulwan for a while during his flight from Ctesiphon.[1][5] After another heavy defeat at the Battle of Jalula in 637, Yazdegerd left Hulwan for the eastern provinces of his realm,[6][7] and the town fell into the hands of the pursuing Arabs under Jarir ibn Abdallah Bajali in 640.[8] In the early 640s, the town was of strategic importance as a frontier post between the Mesopotamian lowlands and the still Sasanian-controlled Iranian plateau, and was garrisoned by troops, including Persian defectors (the Khamra), who were settled there under the Rashidun caliphs.[4]
In the early Islamic period, until the 10th century, the town is described "as a flourishing town in a fertile district producing much fruit" (L. Lockhart).[1] It was situated on the Khurasan Road, and was the first town of the Jibal province to be met travelling eastwards from Baghdad.[9] Nevertheless, as in Sasanian times, it was fiscally tied to the Mesopotamian lowlands (the Sawad).[10] Under Mu'awiya I (r. 661–680) it became the capital of western Jibal (Mah al-Kufa).[10]
According to the 10th-century traveller Ibn Hawqal, the town was half the size of Dinavar, and its houses were built of both stone and bricks. Though the climate was hot, dates, pomegranates and figs grew abundantly. According to the 10th-century hudud al-'alam the town's figs were dried and widely exported, while al-Muqaddasi adds that the town was surrounded by a wall with eight gates, and included, alongside a mosque, a Jewish synagogue.[11]
The town was also a metropolitan province of the Church of the East between the 8th and 12th centuries.
Around the turn of the 11th century, the town was governed by the semi-independent Annazid dynasty, until they were expelled by the Kakuyids.[1][12] It was taken and burned by the Seljuq Turks in 1046, while an earthquake in 1049 completed the town's destruction. Although rebuilt, it never recovered its former prosperity, and is now the town of Sarpol-e Zahab.[1]

The Vahaduo site as we've known it has ceased to exist.
Yes, it has been massively downgraded - I'm not sure why it was presented as some kind of upgrade.
I can live without Davidski's standard calculator, which was of no use for West Asians anyway, but the updated spreadsheets for K12b and K13, and the G25 samples were very useful.

Not downgraded. Github vahaduo is owned by a different person and he accused the vahaduo.genetics.ovh(the one with all the gedmatch calculators) site owner of stealing his calculator. then he took legal action and removed the site from google search results a few months ago but you could still access it with the URL. and now he has claimed the domain and erased the ovh site. he even went as far as deleting the ovh site from the archives in wayback machine by writing a complaint to wayback machine to take them down.
From his reddit posts I think he did this because the ovh site was more popular and was getting more traffic and profit. and he was jealous and felt entitled to getting more money than him. he first removed the google search to fool people into searching vahaduo and going to the github site instead. but when that didn't work and people still went to the ovh site he decided to do this.
honestly I am angered by this, the Github owner has destroyed vahaduo.genetics.ovh out of jealousy and an inferiority complex. he put out an arrogant message calling us "lazy" for relying on preset populations such as mdlp k16. dodecad k12...ect. I suggest people here not to use the github site don't give traffic to the website.

Very nice. Can you say which of the results is which group?
The groups are intertwined due to conversions, several language replacements and tribal merging from the Safavid into the Qajar era so it's a bit hard to draw a line, but..
This one is Kalhor. Shia. Speaks Southern Kurdish.
https://imgur.com/9oY8wcB.jpg
This one is mine, which I have also previously posted. I'm from a merging of Jaf and Goran. Sunni background, but also a few conversions from Yarsanism and Shiism. I speak a local version of Central Kurdish(Sorani), which is a lot like Sanandaji/Ardalani but has heavier Kalhori and Gorani influence. Then again, Sanandaji dialect(Sorani) in itself is a Kurmanji-Gorani hybrid.
https://imgur.com/MlRrABc.jpg
This one is from a very similar background as me. Jaf. Sunni. Central Kurdish dialect.
https://imgur.com/OlsAZEX.jpg
Here's her cousin's results which I didn't share in the previous post. His combined Atlantic-Med and North-Euro scores are remarkably lower than hers and ours. It might be the calculator effect since his Caucasus score is higher. Or he has grandparents with Lor ancestry, which is not uncommon in the region.
https://i.imgur.com/EAFSf3G.jpg
Goran. Yarsan. Southern Kurdish dialect, grandparents spoke Gorani, which is considered a different language than Kurmanji. What's weird is that Kurmanji and Persian/Luri languages are in many ways closer to eachother than to the Gorani and Sorani languages/dialects that are geographically in-between.

Ah, I see. Thanks, now it all makes sense.
I was wondering what could possibly be the dangers of having access to these lists and calculators. Why is he pretending that this is good news? I guess the danger was him losing out on traffic to the other site.
He does deserve immense credit for coding the Vahaduo calculator - I also really like the CustomPCA. But we need a page with lists of modern and ancient individual and avg coordinates and scores in different calculators, for reference and comparisons. It's not only very convenient, it improves the calculators.
Why can't he add a section to his site that offers the same things as what genetics.ovh used to offer?
Luckily I have saved a bunch of ancient and modern K12B and G25 coordinates, but not as many as I would like to have.
Does anyone of you still have the updated K12b or individual modern/ancient G25 scaled coordinates?

Great! Let me know if you have any other Iranian results
I've been looking for other Iranian results myself.
Does anyone have any results from Ahvaz/Abadan Persians? I've seen many results from Khuzestani Lors and Arabs but not urban Persians.
Or how about Persian/Tat from NW Iran?

There are tajiks from Herat who are this close. Actually closer.
Then there are shia tajiks all over the country who can be really close too, but they have iranian ancestry though.
This one however seems to be an outlier

Oh, cool. Unfortunately, I don't know my Y DNA since I tested in FTDNA. I knew that my ancestors lived in mountainous area and there was relatively less mixing.
In my town, language is dying with each generation. My grandparents are fluent, my parents can speak to some degree but my generation (people around 20) knows only few words

I see. And the language that's replacing Tat is obviously Azerbaijani.
Do you think the Tats are basically a kind of Persians?

Yes, Azerbaijani is replacing tat.
I am not sure. But, from my little research, I couldn't find any sources about persian migration to south east caucasian mountains. I believe tats are caucasians who were assimilated to persians since 2000-3000 years ago the areas that tats live now were northern borders of big persian empires and persian was lingua franca in the region. So, I think tats are caucasians + some mixing with persians.
I asked from a lot of elderly people about possible migration from iran but none of them heard anything about it from their ancestors. They only believed it because of history books.
I know that my father's village was formed by migration from nearby town (ismayilli) about 500 years ago.
Btw, how do you know about tats? Are you from Russia? I am asking because even in Azerbaijan there are some people who don't know about tats. So, it was odd and ingeresting to see foreigner being interested about tats.

So a lot of genetics in Azerbaijan can be traced to Caucasian Albania.
Yes, I'm Russian but obviously not an average guy in this regard. I've known about the Tats and the Talysh for years. Back in the Soviet Union many Mountain Jews were erroneously recorded as Tats. And now that you appeared here and introduced yourself as a Tat, I found it interesting to ask a question. :)

Wow! I am really interested about mountain jews and their relationship with tats. Looks like they are genetically distant fron each other. I wonder if mountain jews picked the language from tats or vice versa or mountain jews were already speaking this language when they came to the caucasus

Well, they are basically Persian Jews.

I think that is because your are not ''northern" enough. At least not for this calculator.
I can compare with my dad's K36, but I don't have a spreadsheet to run his result.

I noticed while Azerbaijan average has 19% north caucasian I have 29.6% similar to Azeri_dagistan (31.5%). I guess this is the main reason why Azerbaijan average is far from me
Two are Azerbaijanis, the third one might be an Iranic minority.

This result is almost identical to mine, except I score no South Asia and slightly less Caucasus.
This person is probably a mix between the north and south of the Republic. Might also be Tat (high NE).
Two more AZ samples. And just to be clear, I'm not focused on Azerbaijan, there's just not a lot of stuff of interest these days. Apart from a real surge of Georgian Gedmatch kits, many of which are with data from Ancestry DNA. As if the U.S. is sending them the kits as part of humanitarian aid or something :D

I don’t have any kits, maybe Leto has. As far I know in this thread we didn’t post any, but I remember I posted some in previous Dodecad threads, and Leto too.

Hi,
Yes, there are a few kits out there, fewer than there are Kazakhs but more than Uzbeks. But I cannot give you anything at the moment, 'cause I'm on my phone. It's also not always easy to tell Kyrgyz from Kazakhs.

Hi Leto. Well no need to hurry, but I would appreciate it if you send me some. Then I can check their matches and mail them to inquire about their hometown.

Hi, Leto!
I wanna ask if you have some North/Siberian/Uralian Russian, Forest Finn, Russian Finnics & other Uralic folks' Gedmatch kits? I need them because I'mma write about my novel characters taking dna test in one of the chapters of my upcoming novel (I know I never told anyone that I'm an author :shy: and I have a half North Russian half Japanese-American character there :p but I also wonder about other Uralic or Slavic Gedmatch kits. I'm so curious about genetic results of many folks). And I also wanna ask where do you get those kits from?

Many of those kits I've seen would be years old, I don't know if they will respond to you. I will check later if there are confirmed Kyrgyz kits in my archive.

Hi,
Strange question. Honestly, I'm not very active here anymore and I prefer to post as little as possible. Don't know what exactly forest Finnics are, sure I may have something but I don't feel like sharing anything. And why half Northern Russian? Too much Mongoloid to my taste. :ranger

Oh ok. You can send me via private if you want, but anyways... Btw, Forest Finns are a bit more traditional versions of Finns, afaik. And Northern Russian is... due to the character "Karina" is a 37-year-old university lecturer who was born & raised in St. Petersburg to a Japanese-American mother & Russian father from a small village in Arkhangelsk(interesting lol). And she has natural blonde hair & green slanted eyes. Her husband "David Jeremiah Jones" is a White American xD Though my novel is inspired by a video game called "Criminal Case" :rotfl:

Caucasians have tons of ANE and CHG.
Vahaduo gets duped into giving them additional Yamnaya due to this mix.

2% WHG means the real Steppe proportion of Balkars is about 11%, twice less.

I am quoting you because you got a good survey about Turkish and Muslim(thogh they arent Muslim but Turkish speaking)population in Balkan/Greece, but maybe anyone else too? It’s unbelievable that we literally have everything and everyone got tested but not an unmixed Karamanli which seems to be rare ore impossible to find nowadays.

CHG Kotias and CHG Satsurblia are closer to the Kurds than to the Chechens. So, Kurds plot closer to the ancient/archaic CHG people in the Caucasus. Does this mean that Kurds are even more native to the ancient Caucasus than the Chechens are? :icon_ask:

CHG & Iran Neolithic are close. On any PCA chart, they cluster very closely. That's the connection between modern Kurds & Caucasian groups. Modern Kurds are mostly descended from Iran Chalcolithic, which in itself is heavily CHG derived (More so than its Iran N input). On any modern calculator, ancient Iran Chalcolithic sample clusters closest with Caucasian people like Georgians & Circassians. But try telling the idiots on Reddit that. Especially the brain-dead Turkic nationalists who claim to have more CHG input than Kurds, when they're in fact way more Anatolia & Levant driven in origin. They're much less Caucasian shifted than Kurds or Iranians. I'm personally a Zaza Kurd, and I'm almost 50% Caucasian on Dodecad K12b. Even when modelling my profile on Vahaduo I still cluster like almost 60% with the Georgian sample using the 'multi' feature when measuring my regional genetic input using modern samples.
So yes, Kurds have strong connection to CHG. Possibly stronger than some people which inhabit the Caucasus region today. I believe Azeris are much less CHG shifted than Kurds are for instance (Since they have more of an Anatolian/ Levant + minor Turkic shift).
Kurds are even by far more shifted toward CHG/Iran_ChL than the Armenians, since the Armenians are more shifted toward Anatolia. Modern autosomal admixtures in Kurds are mostly derived from CHG and not Iran_Neo.
Dodecad k12b admix results don't lie.
Of course Kurds are by far much more Caucasian/Caucasoid that the Turks. Turks are not even Caucasoid people at all.
Turks are very, very different species from us, with very different origin/roots. We can be 100% certain about that. Turks are partly Mongoloid (Eastern Eurasian) and Anatolian, while Kurds are FULLY Western Eurasian, Caucaso-Iranian people. Turks are speakers of a Mongoloid language, while Kurds are speakers of a Western Iranic (Indo-European) language.
Turks have an Altaic (Mongoloid) origin, while Kurds have an Aryan origin.

Well turks are oghuz specifically, not mongolian lol
I don't know who exactly those Oghuz Turks were, but they were clearly not Caucasian/Caucasoid CHG/Irn_ChL aka Caucaso-Gedrosia people. Turkic peole are known to have a Altay-Sayan origin.
When you study the Dodecad results it looks like that CHG/Irn_ChL were high on the Caucasus and Gedrosia admixtures at the same time.
In CHG Kotias and CHG Satsurblia samples, both Caucasus & Gedrosia are high. In Trialeti (Caucasus_EMBA) samples both Caucasus & Gedrosia components are high. In modern Caucasus people such as Lezgins, both Caucasus and Gedrosia components are high.
Even in my own results both Caucasus and Gedrosia components are the most prominent components.

My other 27% comes most likely from Anatolia/Western Mesopotamia.

Are they one family? Like parents, siblings, first cousins, etc. Nonetheless it's remarkable how much North European they are. More Aryan than most of the other Western Iranics.

Great. I will add it to the spreadsheet. Don't think there will be many more Tat samples in the future.

All 4 people (one of them is my result) don't have any known Azeri mixture. One of the samples is from Lahij which is well known small mountainous town with a rich history. But talysh people from Azerbaijan have some elevated Eastern Asian ancestry, too. So, I guess there has been a lot of mixing in Azerbaijan in the past. Besides, some North Caucasians have as much as Eastern Asian ancestry as Azerbaijanis. I guess, Eastern Asian ancestry may possibly come from them, too, in addition to Azerbaijanis.
Full Kurds and Persians can score 2-3% East Eurasian too, that's not unusual.

Tats are a very small community and are actually very much persecuted in Azerbaijan. I just wonder how much they are mixed. But you are right, when you move northwards toward Chechnya you will see the increase of Turkic and North European ancestry.
There are up to 1m Talysh/Tat people. The Tat subgroup of Talysh has only 40k souls.
There are even more Ezdi Kurds than Talysh people. And it makes me sad that most of them are assimilated either by the Persians or Azeri people.
They have to survive!
In general Talysh/Tat people are the closest Aryan (Northwestern Iranic) people to Aryan/Northwest Iranic Kurds. We have common ancestry from the Aryan/Northwest Iranic Medes. Talysh people have also some Scythian ancestry. They do plot closer to me than the Persians do. That is why I am very much interested in them.

Kurds in Western Kurdistan have some Eastern Asian ancestry. But Kurds in Eastern Kurdistan have more Gedrosia and less Eastern Asian ancestry.
I am originally from those 'northern' Kurdistan areas. And I don't have much of Mongoloid ancestry. That means that Muslim Kurds are a little bit mixed with other Muslim populations.
Nevertheless there was not much mixture between Muslim Kurds and Muslim Azeris, because Muslim Kurds of 'Iran' are mostly Sunni, while Muslim Azeris are mostly Shia.
I think this Kurd has some extra Azeri-Persian ancestry. His 'Gedrosia' is on a lower side for a Kurd from Eastern Kurdistan. That person has also some 'Siberian' in him/her which is a clear indication of mixture
Possible. Khoy is majority Azeri. And the Kurdish tribes of Maku and Khoy had history in Eastern Anatolia aswell.
But 3.30% EA is not unsusual for Kurds and other Iranians. It's not much more than the average.
Also Khoy is hardly "eastern" Kurdistan. It's a rarer northern region for Kurds.

Turkish Kurd actually don't have more East Asian ancestry than Iranian Kurds. So that's false.
There are Shia Kurds in Kermanshah and Khorasan. Also there are turkified Shia Kurdish tribes among Azeris. Notably in Qarabaq in Qaradag and in Eastern Azerbaijan Province.
The Kurds in Khorasan frequently mix with Turks/Azeris aswell.
Thanks bro. Tats are a very small community and are actually very much persecuted in Azerbaijan. I just wonder how much they are mixed. But you are right, when you move northwards toward Chechnya you will see the increase of Turkic and North European ancestry.
Stop talking out of your ass please. The Tats in Azerbaijan live in the Northeast bordering Dagestan. A region that didnt have much turkic prescence historically. Why should turkic ancestry increase towards Chechnya? The Tats are mixed. However not much with Turks but probably with other peasants and settled people previously living there. The most turkic regions in Azerbaijan Republic are in the Northwest bordering Georgia and Armenia and also in the south bordering Iran. The northeast is the least turkic region among all Azeris.

Tats are not a subgroup of Talysh. They have completely different origins. The Tats of Azerbaijan speak a dialect of Persian. Talysh speak a northwest iranic language.
Don't mix up Tats of Azerbaijan Rep. (SW-Iranic) with Tats of Iran (NW-Iranic). Tat is an exonym.

Figuratively 99% of Kurds are some kind of Muslims. The Yazidis are a vanishingly small population, now largely uprooted by various armed conflicts and political instability in Iraq and Syria. And you can't even become a Yazidi, just like the Druze one has to be born into a Yazidi family in order to count as such. In the West and Russia you people just intermarry and get diluted with time being cut off from the traditional lifestyle.

Also Khoy is hardly "eastern" Kurdistan. It's a rarer northern region for Kurds.Khoy is 'eastern' Kurdistan for sure and it was also a homeland of the Medes. And Kurds are derived from the Medes. So people who are derived from the Medes, like Kurds, have the biggest claims to that region.
Turks can never claim these lands, because Turks are not native to Northwestern Asia anyway.
Btw, there are many different Kurdish clans and tribes in Eastern Kurdistan. One of those tribes is a Donboli tribe. Donboli tribe of Khoy has an Ezdi origin:
The Donboli came from Bokhtan, a Kurdish region between Siirt and Cizre in what is now southeastern Turkey. The first ancestor was a certain Isa Beg, who became in 1378 the ruler of Sokmanabad. His descendant, Sheikh Ahmad Beg, entered service of the Turkmen Aq Quyunlu, and then the family held several posts in Persian administration. According to Sharafkhan Bidlisi, the members of Donboli tribes were Yezidi, but one of their leaders by the name of Isa Beg, together with other families, converted to Islam

If people leave us alone in the 21st century we will survive. There are still more than 1 million Ezdi Kurds, so we even still have a right for our homeland called Ezdixan, and we are working for it as we speak.
Of course Ezdis are mixing with other people around them, but they are a minority. And those who are married to other races are not considered Yezidi anymore.
Some examples in Russia are people like Zara. She has an Ezdi origin, but she was married to a Russian dude. So, she lost her 'Ezdi' identity now and is considered just a Kurd.
Another example of a lost soul is Ksenia Borodina (Ксения Бородина). Her father is an Ezdi from Armenia and her mother Russian. She is a lost cause, assimilated and here genes are gone to a bigger Russian population because she is married to a Russian dude and has kids with him.

Same thing for the Gedrosian component S. Asian references whether they’re Brahui, Pashtun or whatever . They all carry significant E./S. Eurasian. Any sample scoring 30% Gedrosian getss a 30% cut of their E./S. Eurasian
Same with the S. Indian references
You need to tally up all the E. Eurasians to get a total but you can be assured that it will end up being much more than 2-3%
Stop talking out of your ass please.
Tat is an exonym.I see Tats as Persianized Talysh people living in the Caucasus. You can have a different few. It is up to you.
Tats and even the Chechens would have some Eastern Eurasian ancestry for the same reason as why Eastern Iranic Ossetians would have some Eastern Asian ancestry.

This is how an ignorant Indian dumbass replies when they don’t get it
Tats and even the Chechens would have some Eastern Eurasian ancestry for the same reason as why Eastern Iranic Ossetians would have some Eastern Asian ancestry.
Language is almost irrelevant in the Northwestern Caucasus when it comes to that. IE North Ossetians, Circassian Kabardians and Turkic Karachay-Balkars score similar amounts of Mongoloid (5-10%).
This is how an ignorant Indian dumbass replies when they don’t get it

Going off on tangents or telling people to shut up doesn’t make you look smarter.
Answer the fucking question. Do you or don’t you think the Dodecad k12 Caucasus references from the spreadsheet I posted carry E. Eurasian or not?? Or the the Gedrosian references?
If they do then you don’t have a say in the matter. Any sample scoring Caucasus or Gedrosian or S. Indian gets a cut of theirs
If Dilawer was so against Gedmatch why the fuck would he have a couple of calculators hosted there

Yes, I do think those componets are almost entirely West Eurasian. You keep picking on me and anybody else who uses Dodecad scores in order to determine how much East/West Eur a sample is. That's why I have to strike back with harsh fighting words.
I see Tats as Persianized Talysh people living in the Caucasus. You can have a different few. It is up to you.
Tats and even the Chechens would have some Eastern Eurasian ancestry for the same reason as why Eastern Iranic Ossetians would have some Eastern Asian ancestry.
Chechens and especially Dagestanis carry very little East Asian DNA in comparison to Azeris and Northwest Caucasians like Ossetians, Circassians and Karachay-Balkars that's why I was irritated by your statement.
Khoy is 'eastern' Kurdistan for sure and it was also a homeland of the Medes.
According to Sharafkhan Bidlisi, the members of Donboli tribes were Yezidi, but one of their leaders by the name of Isa Beg, together with other families, converted to Islam
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donboli_(tribe)
There also is the Kuresunni tribe, who supposedly are of turkish (Chepni) origin.
Chechens and especially Dagestanis carry very little East Asian DNA in comparison to Azeris and Northwest Caucasians like Ossetians, Circassians and Karachay-Balkars that's why I was irritated by your statement.

Yes but still Northeastern Azerbaijan is by far the least East Eurasian influenced region.

Khoy isn't Kurdistan at all buddy. It's Iran and the vast majority of the people are Azerbaijanis.

Of course is Khoy a Kurdish city. The name of the city is of a Kurdic origin

Few ydna evidence I'm aware doesn't support the fact that the Tats are assimilated Talysh. All paternal linages belonged to the local, caucasian branches unlike the Talysh.
Their language is not in the same branch as Talysh either. Don't know how dialects are defined but it is not mutually intelligible with Persian either. I say this as a person who is from an are adjecent to Tats and also have tat relatives.

Dagestan as the rest of the North Caucasus is not a very safe place and the people are notorious for higher than average crime rates and general asocial behavior in Russian cities but after I learned more about their genetics it's now my favorite part of the Caucasus (maybe after Orthodox Georgia).

This is what their (Caucasus Tats) origin story is telling us.
But according to iranicaonline.org, Tats in the Caucasus are different from Tati in Iran. So Iranian Tats are more related to Talysh and other Northwestern Iranic people, while Tats in Azer are Persianized people.
Tātī and Ṭālešī (Talyshi) together make up the larger dialect chains which together make up the larger Tatic family (not to be confused with Tat-Persian spoken in pockets north of the Baku area). Among these, the two Tātī pockets in Gīlān, Kalāsī and Kabataʾī, have their closest relatives in Upper Tārom in Zanjān province.

Yes, you are mistaking them. Iranian Tats aren't the same as the Caucasian ones. Even their languages belong to different branches.

Because "Tat" is an exonym turks in the region used to refer to (muslim)-settled people. Some nomadic turks even call non-nomadic turks "tat". Like the Shahsevan they refer to everyone else as Tat.
Another example would be the region of Miandoab where turkic speakers are usually named in two groups: "Afshar" and "Tat"
Yamnaya people. There were more Caucaso-Iranic (Gedrosia) than Caucaso-Anatolian (Caucasus).

I think these results are from an academic study that has already been posted here. Dagestani numbers went into updating Dagestani Azeri average.
As for proximity, it is not surprising. Tats live in the north and mixed with the Dagestani people, just as Azerbaijanis have done.

Something is off here. For example this sample seems to be straight up some kind of Iranic.

I don't think it's off for Aghjabadi. Could be assimilated Kurds or other Iranic speakers. Such results exist in Iranian Azerbaijan too every now and then.
Btw the region that they are from is all apparently from Hindarx in the Northwestern parts of Aghjabadi.

Yes, that is likely the case. I asked around, and it turns out there has been a migration from Lachin to Agjabadi. For example, the population of Taxtakörpü willage is from Lachin (which had a large Kurdish population).

Bad news: the samples in the G25 spreadsheet labelled as Iranian_Fars weren't actually from Fars province but from all over Iran. A friend of mine found out their actual locations after contacting the conducter of the study. I suggest deleting the average or renaming it as Iranian_Average.
I also runned them through Dodecad now and added the correct geographical label:

I'm surprised you don't have any samples by now. Are they considered Persian? That guy identifies as "half Persian" (the other half is from Europe).

Yes i'd say so. Lurish language is closely related to Persian.
Most Iranian expats call themselves Persian, no matter the background. But in Lur/Bakhtiari case I'd say it makes sense too.

As some of you probably already know, we finally have more Bronze and Iron Age samples from West Iran - and now we actually have ancient samples from upper Mesopotamia.
The updated G25 list from the Eurogenes blog has samples from Dinkha Tepe, Hasanlu(not just F38) and Hajji Firuz all in the lake Urmia region, but also samples from Nemrik(Dohuk/Iraq) and Van, Mardin, Sirnak and Batman. There are, supposedly, also samples from Shanidar and Bestansur in Iraqi Kurdistan but I can't find them on the G25 spreadsheets.
I can make appropriate G25 calculators myself and have figured out the profile of these samples, still it's not the same as Dodecad's K12b.
Do any of you have the K12b results of these samples?
I know that Genoplot have all the modern and ancient samples from the old G25 spreadsheets available for all Gedmatch calculators, but they haven't updated their lists for a while.

This Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@muronormalo/videos) has many interesting West & Central Asian results, particularly Kurdish and Turkish ones.
Kurd from Arbil.
5.61% Sub-Saharan!
I associate SSA-admixture among Kurds with Arab intermarriages as it tends to come along with above normal Southwest Asian score, but this person literally seems to be Kurdish with 1/16 Bantu ancestry.
https://i.imgur.com/ms4U8nr.jpg
Another Kurd from Arbil.
Haplogroup N-Y23747
A North-East Asian haplogroup, SSA admixture and higher Caucasus and South-West Asian score than normal for unmixed central Kurds. Looks like he has received admixture from all of the ethnic groups in Iraq.
https://imgur.com/VhDUnbs.jpg
Kurd from Mardin. R1a
Turkish and/or Semitic admixture?
https://i.imgur.com/w7FWfsR.jpg
Mhallami / Mardelli from Mardin. J2
Looks very similar to the Mardin Kurd above.
There have been debates for more than a century about the origins of this North Mesopotamian Arabic-speaking Shafi'i Sunni Muslim group.
Are they Muslim Assyrians? Arabized Kurds? Arabized Turkmens? Or just Arabs? They are unsure themselves.
If this person is representative for the group then they appear to have no origins from tribal Beduin Arabs of Hassakah whatsoever. Also no signs of Turkic admixture.
This person appears to be Arabized Assyrian & Kurd.

Where are you from? Turkey Kurd?
Kermanshah province, Iran.
[
I am 7/8 Turkey Kurd & 1/8 Levantine Arab
Which town/province?
(You give me trollish vibes, but I'm curious about this person's results whether it's yours or someone elses).
What's "Levantine Arab" in this context?
Arab from Urfa? Mardelli?
Syrian migrant in Turkey?
Zagrosian
12-26-2022, 08:47 PM
btw how can you interpret the results?
Your "Arab" great grandparent was of the "Mhallami" kind.
Not Levantine. North Mesopotamian. Arabized, not actual Arab, unlike East Syrians who often have Beduin origins.
Your East Eurasian score is even lower than mine. No Turkic admixture.
You also seem to have Assyrian/WestArmenian-like admixture from your Kurdish grandparents.
Overall it looks like a mostly Kurdish result with significant (30-50%) Assyrian/Armenian admixture.
