I had a the same history in my family: a 1/8 saxon from Brasov and was just a Romanian from Sibiu 😂

Genetic continuity?

Romanian and Bulgarian ethnogenesis happened at similar time in similar places, involving similar peoples - Thracians/Dacians, Slavs, Bulgars/Avars. The fact that Wallachia was in the Bulgarian Empire suggests further mixing happened.
